Since it's sunday and I have nothing else to do, I just translated and edited the last chapter of Evangelion for you guys.

It's like they ran out of time, so they just had Shinji change his mind so the show could end. Even as a kid, it looked to me like Shinji didn't have any reason to think "hey maybe, life isn't such bullshit after all."

Anno and some fans might love it, but it's crap. It's not even the unorthodox storytelling methods, it's the fact that Shinji suddenly changes his mind in the last few seconds when a few seconds earlier his opinion was the exact opposite. It was lazy conflict resolution.

Fine, maybe back then an internal pep talk was in order. In the latter half, he had real shit to deal with. Maybe it's not so weird that you might hate yourself a little after killing your friend?

I'm not even a huge Reifag and this fucking fan comic offered a a better conclusion to Rei's ending in Sadamoto's actual manga. Hell I felt more emotional after reading this then I did for the entire final chapter of the manga.

But seriously now it's got me fanwanking-

I went through basically the exact same shit from episode 26 some years before watching NGE. It's part of the reason I like it so much, because Anno clearly knows what he's talking about.

I don't think Shinji hadn't learned a thing, there was a undefined amount of time that had passed until Asuka had appeared, at the very least long enough for him to have put up a little something to remember Misato by.

He then sees quantum Rei again doing her freaky godlike shit off to the side, and the girl who he thought was dead, freaks out, starts to choke her, she acts kind to him, stops short, he in turn stops as well, feels bad about it, and reflects on all that he had learned.
There was quite a bit of print media depicting the two on the beach sitting side by side looking out at the head of GNR, supposedly this scene would of taken place directly following the choke scene.
What I'm getting at though is Asuka isn't the only one who grew from all this shit in EoE, Shinji did as well, he relapsed for a moment, but only a moment.
