My bearded dragon acts more like a puppy, though most of the snakes and some lizards I've had experience with conform to the notorious "cold" reptile concept. If you want an attentive, curious pet, beardies are awesome. My beardy watches people, likes to explore the room curiously, I can take him on walks down the block on a lizard-leash (only in summer), he closes his eyes when pet, when he eats a new food he cocks his head to the side and expresses his confusion, licks your fingers, and he likes to snuggle when he gets cold.
You can't train any lizard like you could a dog or a cat, but they're not by any means stupid or boring. They're all intelligent, just in different ways. If anything, my pet rabbit is by far the dumbest in the house, not the lizard.
