Hey, /carcom/. I was wondering if the 1980s The New Teen Titans was worth the read. My local comic store only has the large graphic novels for $50. I can wait until they're on sale for 50% off, but that might be a few months. I was wondering, is it even worth the read? And how much is the material worth?
The alarm clock went off, and Toph laid there, letting it ring. She had already been awake for about half a hour anyways, and she didn't even know who had decided to set the clock for her anyways. She was still laying there, feeling no urge to get out of bed when a maid came in, and shut off the clock for her. "Now now, it's time to get up." the maid scolded. While she couldn't make out facial features, Toph was able to 'see' that her maid was a plump short woman, and from the sound of her voice, she seemed older. "Why, it's not like anyone needs me anywhere." She said, sounding pouty. "Now now, you know that's not true. You're one of the hero's who saved us all." tsked the maid, reaching down and yanking the covers off of her, leaving Toph in just a white nightie, curled up. "Hey! c'mon!" She yelped, sitting up, trying to grab the covers, but they were yanked off the bed. "Listen, they don't need the help of a blind earth bender who can't even bend anymore alright? so just let me lay down and mope in peace." Toph said, bottom lip sticking out Ever since she had almost died during the final fight, Toph had found herself completely cut off from her metal bending, her sand bending and within a few days, the most she could do for earth bending was lift pebbles and go on with 'seeing' with her feet. She hated that she was this helpless, that she was exactly what her parents had always thought she was.. So she had stopped attending the meetings, where her friends planned out the rebuilding of the areas decimated by the fire nation, Where they were planing what to do with those who still wanted to fight. "They don't want you there, because you can make boulders lift up, or turn steel into your plaything." The maid said, walking over to Toph's hamper, filling it with the blanket and her dirty clothes. "They want you at the meetings, because your there friend. that's how I see it anyways." She said, and then left. Toph sat up, sighing. at least somebody had faith in her...now if only she could feel that way herself.
"Alright, Now if I may suggest, perhaps the Avatar could make rounds and use his energy bending on some of the more..violent inmates?" A fire nation general suggested. The meeting room was fairly large, with a large table in the middle, a map of the world on it, various figures placed over it. "Look, for the last time, Aang can't just go around using energy bending like other forms of bending, there's always a risk in it." Zuko said, fists on the table. "I wouldn't mind trying though.." Aang piped up. "And risk losing your bending powers?" Katara asked, shaking her head. "If you lose your powers, that could well mean no more Avatars anyways." "That, would be bad." Sokka said. "Can't we just brain wash them like the Judys?" "Now there's a pleasant memory." Came the dry reply. Everyone who was used to it turned and smiled as Toph walked into the room. "Who is this little girl?" Asked the same general, who now had a look of annoyance on his face. "This little girl, General Ro, Is one of the hero's who helped us save the world, back when you were working for my father." Zuko said, voice going icy. "And might I ask her name?" Ro shot back, still viewing her with a critical eye. "Well, if you ask her." Toph said, elbowing past him, over to by Zuko. "Then she might tell you that her name is Toph." "I..see.And what do you have to-" "That is ENOUGH!" Zuko said, getting up and storming over to the genral. "You will respect my friends, you will stop the lip, and you will say nothing more and nothing less than what is required of you, and only when it applies to this meeting. do I make myself clear?" Zuko said, a finger up in the generals face. "Only thing missing there, was him saying Bitch at the end." Sokka snickered, Making Suki join in. "I understand." General ro said, though cletched teeth. "Moving on with the meeting. My uncle has sent word that the earth Kingdom needs help in the rebuilding effort. they have all the earth benders needed of course, but tons of crop was destroyed before the Zeppelins were taken care of." "The water Benders can come and help bring fresh water in some of the harder hit areas. it'll take time but they should be able to make some aqueducts." Katara said. "That'll help. How soon do you think you could spear head the project?" Zuko asked. "Wait, you want Katara to be in charge of this?" Aang asked. "Look, I know you want the Gaang to stay together, but we have to admit, that some of us are going to be needed elsewhere." Zuko said. "I-I suppose i can be gone by tomorrow, and can meet up with the other water benders in a couple of days." Katara said, looking a little unsure. "Alright. Moving on.." Zuko said.
Toph was taken back a little bit, at the take charge attitude of Zuko, but found herself liking it, compared to how whiny he had been when he first joined the group. She tuned out of most of the rest of the talk, tuning in when she heard Suki and Sokka being asked to help with a joined nations/kingdoms fighting task force. combining the awesome earth bending of the Dy lee warriors, with the skills of the Kyoshi Warriors and under the leadership of chief Hakoda, they would also be supported with top fire benders. It would be a interesting team, and Suki and Sokka were asked to leave to join it to help ease over tensions that might arise from the differnt nations. Toph couldn't help but notice, that as the meeting went on, many people were given tasks, told to go and do this and that, but she was never asked a question, and so she kept her mouth shut for the most part, though she could tell that General Ro kept looking over at her.
"Listen Aang, I know you hate having to fight, and you just wanna rebuild the air benders, but we have a few tough pockets of residence remaining, who are swearing that my father will come back, and be greater than ever." Zuko said. "I can head down with Tinkle toes, And help him out." Toph said, speaking up for the first time. "Really?" Ro said, a sneer at his lips. "Toph..Not to dismiss you..but..have your powers even come back yet?" Katara asked softly, cutting Aang off from saying yes. Toph huffed, and turned to Katara. "Lok her, Everyone else is getting an Important job, and earth bending or no earth bending, i can be a huge help to Aang." She said. "And I'll be glad for the company." Aang said, not wanting to start a fight. "Look, you need to accept that without your bending,you're not that much of a help to Aang, and actually could end up being a distraction!" Katara shot back. "I'm sure your boyfriend will be alright and I'll be just fine! If chuckles here could manage to stay alive throughout all of this, then I'll be golden!" Toph said, slamming a palm down on the table. "So the mighty Earth bender can't even live up to her name." Ro said. "SHUT UP!" Both Katara and Toph yelled at him, at the same time. "Aang is not my boyfriend." Katara said, cheeks red. "I'm not?" Aang asked. "For the love of.." Katara started. "Look, I came here to try and help, but if I'm useless to you now, then at least have the guts to say it to my face!" Toph yelled. She felt the hot tears leaking down her face far too late to be able to stop them, and knowing it made her look even more like a little girl. "Toph..are you..OK?" Katara asked slowly, sounding worried. "I'm just fine, they're only tears.." She started, and then paused. At first she had assumed she had knocked something over onto her lap, and that's what the warm wetness was down there, but from how the others were reacting..and the smell reaching her lips. "Not a little girl indeed." Ro said. That was all Toph heard, as she took off running from the room, leaving a yellow puddle behind.
Yesterday, around 4:00pm, I received a phone call telling me that moot has been in a fatal car accident.
I'm not feeling up to explaining detail of the accident, and how it happened, I'm just here to notify everyone since his family would be devastated, and his brother probably wouldn't want to explain the loss to a bunch of guys on the net.
Maybe if you wanted to show respect, and make him proud, leave a R.I.P moot or something in your sigs/msn/aim/whatever. Just an idea.
