I've been keeping my eyes peeled, but I haven't seen her. I saw her saying she wanted to try it, though. Pixyteri has also expressed an interest in several gal outfits/idols, as well. I'd love to see her attempt it, but given that she's generally resentful of tanning, lightening her hair and skinny, skinny girls, I doubt she'll try it seriously.

It's a shame that pretty much only agejo, rokku and co&lu-inspired stuff is popular amongst Westerners. I'd love to see some girls try this geeky, prep-school trend that I'm seeing more of in magazines.

Why can't you do both? I honestly don't understand, unless it's cost, and then, just get a job and split the cost evenly?

I also find that the Western gals who look the best are also the ones that are Asian-looking somehow. I don't just mean natural facial features, either. I find that white/western gals with dark circle lenses (even if they have light eyes) and/or hair that's been dyed a dark color look more "gal".

Japanese gals typically do things to themselves that make them appear as if they are " trying to look white" (whether that is their true intention or not). The result is often an in-between look. It would make sense for white gals to attempt the same thing in the reverse, but it doesn't appear to occur to most of them.

I feel like the gyaru comms are so bitchy because the entire fashion subculture is done online in the west. They have to scan through magazines/blogs/etc online and look for cute trends. They buy most their clothing online, save for a few peices from Forever21, C.Russe, etc.
In Japan, its just out there, you can walk around and get involved with people. The trends evolve more fluidly. You're actually out with your friends shopping and hanging out, not just take a billion photos of yourself and photo shopping them to hell.
I uesd to be into lolita as well, but damn. I don't like people telling me that I'm dressed "wrong". I'm dressed how I like to dress! Why do I have to look like a clone?

This. I love rock and some agejo and my style is heavily influenced by both those things, but the majority of my inspiration comes from the casual and "mode" stuff you see in magazines like Jelly and Happie Nuts. That doesn't seem very popular on e_g, though.

I like the hyper-sexualized, over-the-top and flashy outfits like pic related, but at the same time, I also recognize our cultural landscape isn't the same as Japan's. A girl in America that's wearing an outfit like this outside of certain settings would be sending a completely different message. So I just stick to stuff that's more culturally appropriate to where I live.

Any online community geared towards fashion will be bitchy. However, I agree for the most part. I'm not implying that the style doesn't have rules or guidelines, but the threshold of what is acceptable in terms of clothes seems a lot narrower in the West. I think hair, makeup and other aspects of personal grooming are more important to being recognized as "gal" than clothes, but that's just me.

For makeup make sure you have:
-Well-groomed brows
-Contoured and high-lighted face
-Circle lenses (if you don't have an astigmatism or something that prevents you from wearing them)
-Top and bottom lashes

For hair:
-A "gal" hair color (some shades of blonde/brunette/red/whatever are more "gal" than others)
-Appropriate hair style
-Having some part of your hair that is obviously fake (dyed/wig/extensions) helps but is not always needed.

Tutorials and other useful things are easily found on everyday_gyaru, kogal_panel and gal_style. You might see some gals who don't have circle lenses, tans, top/bottom lashes and things like that, but it's best to stick as closely as possible to the text book example of what makes a gal when you're just beginning.

I would suggest going to jmagazinescans

Asian girls have smaller eyes, virtually no eyelashes, little to no eyebrow/eye brow shape, etc... But on western women, most of them do not need tons and tons of eyelashes and certainly 90% look rediculous with circle lenses.

I guess I'm just not into looking that fake! I like nail art, all the clothing, the makeup (sans the circle lenses. I'd wear them for a cosplay/special event but never every day or week).
IDK, I feel like the western gyaru groups just try too hard to look fake and exactly like the models.

I think it's possible for non-asian gals to wear lashes and lenses and not look ridiculous; they just have to pic the ones that are best for "western" features and not asian ones.

I really like circle lenses, myself, but I try not to wear them too long because I'm also worried about damaging my eyes. I'm super careful and only by ones that aren't super pigmented, have my same base curve and are made by Geo.
