Thieves break into Miley Cyrus' house, take valuables worth...
$100,000
It was not a great way to celebrate her 21st birthday.
Even as she was preparing to perform at the American Music Awards on Sunday, Miley Cyrus' home in Studio City, Los Angeles, was broken into.
On Friday, burglars made off with US$100,000 worth of jewellery and high-end purses last weekend, entertainment news website TMZ reported.
No word yet if the thieves made off with the Bangerz singer's vintage Chanel purse that she made infamous when she pulled a suspicious-looking rolled cigarette from it during the European Music Awards early this month, the Mail Online reported.
The singer also owns a vast collection of Chanel baubles, like a Lucite cuff and a gold stomach chain.
SECURITY FENCES
Her house is not easy to get into (or get to) because it is high up a winding road and has high security fences, electronic surveillance and a long driveway to her front door,
examiner.com reported.
The Wrecking Ball singer was reportedly a wreck after news emerged of the theft.
Officer Cleon Jeseph of the Los Angeles Police Department told the Mail Online that the incident took place in the daytime, at around 3.50pm.
The officer said there was no sign of forced entry and there are no suspects yet. Investigations are continuing.
There was no one at the residence when the break-in occurred, and there were no reported injuries.
TMZ quoted a source as saying that the singer who celebrated her birthday on Saturday, was "extremely upset" because "a lot of personal items were stolen".
The source added: "She's really shaken up about the whole thing."
This is not the first time that she has become a victim of such an intrusion.
In September last year, Cyrus avoided a run-in with an armed intruder, who attempted to force his way into her home wielding a pair of scissors.
Fortunately, she was not at home when the terrifying incident occurred at 4am, and her employees were quick to call the police and have the man arrested.
The intruder was identified as Jason Luis Rivera, who was thought to be delusional and kept referring to Cyrus as his "wife".
Meanwhile, the birthday girl tweeted a photo of her four pooches fast asleep on her bed last weekend, captioned: "All I could want on my birthday."
