Sister Christian
Oh the time has come
And you know that you're the only one
To say O.K.
Where you going
What you looking for
You know those boys
Don't want to play no more with you
It's true

You're motoring
What's your price for flight
In finding mister right
You'll be alright tonight

Babe you know
You're growing up so fast
And mama's worrying
That you won't last
To say let's play
Sister Christian
There's so much in life Don't you give it up
Before your time is due
It's true
It's true yeah

Motoring
What's your price for flight
You've got him in your sight
And driving thru the night
Motoring
What's your price for flight
In finding mister right
You'll be alright tonight

Motoring
What's your price for flight
In finding mister right
You'll be alright tonight
(repeat)

Sister Christian
Oh the time has come
And you know that you're the only one
To say O.K.
But you're motoring
You're motoring

She does porn to pay for school

FOR HER DEGREE: Student Miriam Weeks' screen name is Belle Knox

Law student acts in porn movies to pay $47,000-a-year fees

Just a few days ago, nobody would have paid her much attention. At least, not at Duke University in the US.

There, she was Miriam Weeks, and she was among the hundreds of students working hard for a degree. But the 18-year-old's secret identity was blown when a fellow student outed her as a porn star, the New York Daily News reported.

Then she became an overnight success story - "Belle Knox" had more hits on Google than Pope Francis and Justin Bieber.

The law student was struggling to pay her school fees and acting in porn movies was a way of paying her way through college, UK daily The Independent reported.

She told the New York Daily News: "I really enjoy sex, so it just seemed like I could pay my way through college doing something I really love doing."

The US$47,000-a-year tuition fees for the North Carolina school proved to be too much for her family to fork out. She said she could not risk taking out a loan and no amounts of shifts at fast food joints would have made up the amount.

"I didn't feel like I had a lot of options. I just Googled 'how to be a porn star', she said.

"It came up with all these modelling agencies, and I sent in my pictures and my height and weight. I was getting calls within days, with people saying they really wanted me."

She declined to tell the New York newspaper what her family made of her career - possibly because she hadn't yet told them. Her father is a doctor in Washington state.

But if they did not know then, they certainly do now - Knox revealed her true identity on American online magazine XOJane.

She also revealed her intention to complete her legal studies and to start a charity to help sex workers.

She broke no rules, says Duke

Duke University said on Friday that "Belle Knox" has broken no rules, and stressed that financial aid is available.

Student Miriam Weeks of Duke University, who has received threats, said she does porn because she needs money for her education.

The university, one of the best in the US, said federal law prohibited it from commenting on individual cases - but stressed that the student had not broken any of its rules.

"There is no restriction in the Duke Community Standard regarding off-campus employment," university spokesman Keith Lawrence told AFP. He added that financial help is available and that more than half of Duke students receive funding assistance.

He said: "Duke has one of the most comprehensive financial aid and scholarship programmes in the US."

Porn offer for fellow student

A Duke University freshman who outed Miriam Weeks as porn star Belle Knox now has an offer to appear in his own movie.

Mr Thomas Bagely was offered US$10,000 by Mr Mike Kulich, who owns adult entertainment company Monarchy Distribution. In an open letter to the student, Mr Kulich said Mr Bagely can appear in his porn movie with the woman of his choice, the New York Daily News reported.

"We will make you a celebrity because it is apparent how much you love porn and attention," Mr Kulich wrote in the letter, dripping with sarcasm, to Mr Bagley.

Mr Kulich wrote: "I love our fans and I love you! You are the type of guy that makes our business move."

[1393836204] Speak Persuasively

Speak persuasively

Learn how to get your message across effectively from American president Barack Obama

Mr Obama starts with his most important message, proves his point, tells effective stories and evokes strong emotions.

AMERICAN president Barack Obama is well-regarded as an inspiring speaker. An analysis of his recent State of the Union speech will help you deliver more persuasive presentations:

Lead with your most important message

We are living in a world of many distractions. So if the speaker does not get to his key message fast enough, his audience checks out.

Since this is a State of the Union address, everyone wants to know how America.is doing, and Mr Obama answered the question under three minutes, saying: "It is you, our citizens, who make the state of our union strong!"

Keep your key message short and Twitter-friendly (under 140 characters) so that it is easy to understand and remember.

Talk is cheap, prove it!

Specificity creates credibility. If you want your audience to believe what you say, words alone ate not enough. You have to demonstrate through vivid examples.

To reinforce that America's success should not depend on accident of birth but the strength of the Americans' work ethic and the scope of their dreams, Mr Obama cited three simple but vivid examples: "It's how the daughter of a factory worker is CEO of America's largest automaker - (applause) - how the son of a barkeeper is speaker of the House - (cheers, applause) - how the son of a single mom can be President of the greatest nation on earth. {Cheers, applause.)

Beat confirmation bias with a well-told story

A significant amount of psychological research has shown that the more you try to convince an audience who disagree with you, the more entrenched they will be in opposition of your idea. This phenomenon is what psychologists term "confirmation bias"

If you want to effectively persuade and change mindsets, you have to first learn how to avoid activating confirmation bias by telling a story.

In Mr Obama's speech, he told five. For your story to work:

• Your story must be based on an actual example;

• Your audience must be able to relate to the character in the story;

• Your story is told with little details (Mr Obama took less than a minute to tell this story);

• Your story has a clear purpose. In Mr Obama's case,
it was the value of the health reforms; and

• Your story must also have a clear call for action.

Evoke strong emotions

Many presentations I have seen are full of numbing numbers - the speakers' attempts to persuade their audience.

In 2004, Carnegie-Mellon University did a study and discovered that once we put on our analytical hat (to think), we hinder our ability to feel. And this in turn affects our ability to persuade since people only act when we make them care enough.

So how do we make our audience care about what we say? We do what Mr Obama did - evoke emotions. Here is how to do it:

CREATE A COMMON ENEMY

"Listen, China and Europe aren't standing on the sidelines; and neither, neither should we. We know that the nation that goes all-in on innovation today will own the global economy tomorrow. This is an edge America cannot surrender."

ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE'S PAINS

"The cold, hard fact is that even in the midst of recovery, too many Americans are working more than ever just to get by; let alone to get ahead. And too many still aren't working at all."

APPEAL TO HIGHER ASPIRATIONS

These could be love, meaning and service. "Congress, give these hard working, responsible Americans that chance. (Cheers, applause.) Give them that chance ... They need our help right now, but more important, this country needs them in the game."

LEND VOICE TO YOUR AUDIENCE'S DESIRES

In this case, he was referring to his fellow Americans: "But first, this Congress needs to restore the unemployment insurance you just let expire for 1.6 million people." (Cheers, applause.)

MAKE THEM FEEL SPECIAL

"My fellow Americans, no other country in the world does what we do. On every issue, the world turns to us; not simply because of the size of our economy or our military might but because of the ideals we stand for and the burdens we bear to advance them!'

Practise these tips and you will be on the road to becoming a more effective speaker and presenter.
