I wear mine when I'm going to shoot on a windy day or any time I'm in the country and want to keep the dirt off. As long as the thing serves it's purpose you can justify it.
Some things can be stretched a little more, like I was speaking about with riding boots. I don't currently own a horse, but I've got a number of friends who do or who's families do so I ride when I get the opportunity. Under and over pants also makes a large difference.
