ALRIGHT /IC/.

I'm taking a year off from school. I plan on going into hyperbolic time chamber mode and going hard on fundamentals. I think my fundamentals are lacking to a point, and if I really want to be a good illustrator/concept artist, those need to be up to snuff.

I AM EQUIPPED WITH:
-LOOMIS
-BRIDGMAN
-HAMPTON
-VILPPU
-A SHIT TON OF ANATOMY BOOKS
-ART OF ____(LOTS OF THINGS)
-GURNEY BOOKS
-LOTS OF OTHER BOOKS, I LIKE BOOKS

I want to largely drill perspective, anatomy, and color/light/value. I'm well-aware of how each works to some extent, but these are fundamentals; I should know them backward and forward.

I'm after resources on perspective and c/l/v mostly, but I will take any and all resources. I am well-familiar with the sticky and what it has to provide, which is (largely) figurative. I have Perspective Made Easy's PDF, and might buy the book since I don't really like working from PDF (personal preference).

So, if you guys have anything, BRING IT ON. I will post a few pieces of mine, so if you have stuff that you think I should take a look at based on them, go for it.

unmotivated loser here.
does there exist a free online course that I can follow that will get me doing studies and exercises to improve my shit?

I really need to be told what to do and directed, otherwise I never bother getting any art done at all.

Art horror stories thread?

>Be in college life study class

>The person next to me is an overweight male dressed in a my little pony graphic tee shirt and jeans.

>We are using student grade oils

>Halfway in the class he starts complaining about the smell of the natural turpenoid we are using to clean our brushes

>"this stuff isn't killing my brain cells is it?"

>"No anon, it's turpenoid natural, you're fine."

>The teacher leaves the class for a while

>he goes over to the sink, POURS OUT THE TURPS, FILLS HIS CUP WITH WATER, AND RETURNS TO HIS SEAT.

>no one notices, too busy painting.

>I lean over and say

"um anon...were using hog bristle brushes, the water will ruin them."

"Dude it's just water, it's not going to hurt the brushes"

>I watch as the bristles swell up from the water, fibers start to fall out with each brushstroke, it's a massacre.

"Haha, these brushes suck so bad"

>teacher returns

>He painted with acrylics and synthetic brushes for the remainder of the class.

Badge Art Style

No.1312692 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Alright guys. A friend of mine was asked to do the badge art for the Maid Cafe for Katsucon 19. She asked me to help her out with it, so after she designed it, I re-drew it, and did the line art. She went back in and drew the face "in her style." Que argument over which style is better. Opinions?

i want to become a self thaught concept artist.

i'm 24 already so i feel like i don't have much time left. i am financially stable for the next 2 years, after that, i'm on my own.

how realistic is it for me to get to a respectable level, and make sufficient income in 2 years from now? i figure i could start doing "some" freelance work in about 1 year, and build a client base towards the 2 year mark. i'm not a complete art noob either, and i believe i'm a fast learner.

link to my da (not complete trash, is it?)
http://meronfeisu.deviantart.com/gallery/

this is the only chance at life i have left guys... if this fails, i have nothing. (could always still become a photographer though bc as we all know that takes zero skill)

how close to jaime jones & craig mullins can i get in 2 years from my starting point?

Okay /ic/

I've been drawing for awhile, but I feel like my fundamentals are still weak as shit. How do I study things like form and perspective most efficiently? Just choose something you want to get good at (arms for example) and then just study the shit out of it? Does that help fundamentals as much as it just helps understanding how the arm is made up? I've checked out the stickie but it all seems like specifics instead of general basic skills.

Help with upcoming political cartoon.

No.1219353 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Hi, it's me, Tom Preston. I've been advised to post here to get feedback and help on improving my art.

I'm doing a political cartoon for Friday's Soapbox Derpy, and I wanted advice on fixing it up. The comic is going to be about the recent tax issue surrounding Mitt Romney. Since the company he worked for sounds a lot like the villain for this Friday's final installment of Batman, and Rush Limbaugh has already made a hilarious remark to that effect, I chose to depict the ongoing drama with Batman (Obama) demanding to know where the other tax returns are from Bane (Romney).

These are two possible thumbnail sketches for the comic. The one on the left is an original scene, while the one on the right is a copy of a famous Batman cover, only with Obama and Romney inserted.

Which of these two do you think would make a better illustration for Friday's comic? What could be done to better frame the action? Should it be more cartoony, or realistic? Is the concept itself sound enough? Could it be pushed more? Should they both be scrapped in favor of a better idea or composition?

I know my reputation here precedes me. But I am genuinely trying to seek help, and all roads have led me here.
