Copy of the English Sten submachine gun, however with the magazine well at the bottom which is typical of "Gerät Neumünster" in comparison with "Gerät Potsdam". The latter is the Mauser copy of the Sten submachine gun and had its magazine well on the left as the original. The term "MP 3008" is an abbreviation of the German device (Geräte) no. 1-3-3008.
Supposedly more than 30 suppliers were involved in parts production and 14 firms in assembly. On November 15, 1944 the Feldzeuginspektion ordered 1 million weapons as their last hope for army and Volkssturm. 250,000 pieces were to be supplied monthly. According to American studies which are thought of as best informed on this subject 3500 weapons were assembled at the most. It remains unclear how many of them actually had reached Volkssturm units before production plants were captured by Allied forces.
