Meplat himself commented that the same result could be probably achieved with differentially-tempered steel of the normal high-carbon variety. Hard edge, tough body.

Sorry to say, but the South would win easily. They have some of the most historied military schools and military leaders and they overnumber the Japanese by the millions. And the Confederates have known to engage in guerilla tactics when things got tough. The Japanese trench fighters would get mowed down.

so basically the south's got this thins won. not to mention in todays society, we have almost all the major military installations.Hell hampton roads(its in Va.) has some of the bigeest/most important naval installations in the world. Norfolk, Oceana, NAB Little Creek(GO SEALS!!). and thats only one little metropolitan area in one state.
not to mention as of lately we have most of the major industrial complexes and more people from the north are moving down south.

Well, Samurai can use guns too. Infact they did use matchlock guns to great effect, until goverment started to get fearful that Samurai lords aided with this new weapon would overthrow shogunate. Also during Satsuma Samurai rebellion they used modern magazine rifles and even gattling guns. Samurai weren't stupid and they realized power of the gun, but for that reason goverment heavily restricted production and developement of guns.

It wouldn't really matter if the Japanese gets to use guns. Because even in the Civil War, the ratio of kills amongst Confederates were noticeably higher than the Union's. Though later in the war, all that did not matter since they got mowed down by vastly superior numbers.
