It's hard to believe the Mexicans improved on the original German design, but it sure looks like they did.

I've heard that too, but I've also read that they liscensed HK machinery and technology. I think it's pretty clear that the rifle is basically a G36 with common sense external changes. It's impossible to know what's inside, but I don't see why they would need to change much internally.

I know, I've seen more than a few pics of their troops with license-produced G36Es. The FX-05 is essentially a modified variant, made with the H&K tooling/machinery they no doubt have.

It's just some sort of spurious nationalistic rhetoric they seem to be spouting, though; completely uncredible to anyone in the know, but still voiced through official channels. Weird.
