While I feel that some writers are wholly enamored with the in-vogue style of 'literary fiction'-and are milking it for all that it's worth-I would say that holding your writing to a higher standard isn't a bad policy, especially if writers want their work to have any sort of longevity. And, I believe that we should strive to constantly better writing as an art form in general. My two cents.
Also, I fail, anon, at keeping up with your Fantasy references, as I recognize them all, but have only read two. (Joe Abercrombie and the Prince of Nothing saga.) You've shamed me into motivating myself to return to Fantasy.
Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
