Watched this last night and I couldn't help but think that now that the movies have moved away from being very 'visual' (lots of done up cars that a reader wouldn't give a shit about or be able to keep track of) this would actually make a half way decent action novel.

it's because the True Blood books are a series of vampire romance mystery novels, and it would be safe to say that the reputation of a pulp fiction series targeted towards women is not particularly high on /lit/.

I've never read the books, but: do you enjoy stories about vampires and lovin'? Then you will probably enjoy the books.

I think you'll find Dan Abnett's Eisenhorne and Ravenor stuff very readable---fun, not too terribly serious. His early Gaunt's Ghosts stuff is also very passable military science fiction. Anything from the last four or five years, the series has gotten a little long in the tooth.

Every other black library author, in my opinion, is really terrible. I did have the opportunity to meet Graham McNeil at the BEA a couple of years ago and, while he may not be the best writer, he's a really nice guy.

Depends on your age. for me EG was like a scifi Harry Potter, just less fun and more overrated (!). Needless to say i was greatly disappointed.

I read it because it got high praise on /lit/ and other scifi forums and claiming it was sooo deep and great. Well i found the book rather childish and full of cliches, i know its a young adult book, but still why praise it?.

I suggest you read some Heinlen instead, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is a good read.

It's an okay book. Orson Scott Card is a shitfucker, but Ender's is decently written and constructed - despite my disagreement with its conclusions and my hate for its author, it's still an okay novel. but maybe you wont like it. i don't fucking know.

You are referencing Huxley's vision of the future as "reality".

He was right about, what? Medication (but only to a small degree), advertisement (but only to a small degree), and about the tiniest bits about surveillance culture (in that yes, there are video cameras now).

You are claiming "self image", "obsession with fashion" and "aestheticism" would make for "condemning" topical literature. As opposed to, you know, the driving forces of Greek Philosophy, the Renaissance, any god-damn social liberties movement.

in the last 4 months i've read 44 books

ereaders are sweet you can discuss them here too. i've got the sony pocket. touchscreen, handy paperback like size. downloaded 750 sci-fi classics, takes up less then 2gigs. it's like a library in my pocket.
