Sweet P understands that this, in effect, is cyclical, with him toasting himself, drinking, and making poor decisions, making him want to drink to ignore this and again bolster about himself.
Finally, we see that the child is a cartoon. truly a statement that these children he has with random women are not 'real' to Sweet P. The Child knows this too, and knows to just crawl away...
