>>60009I got my private and commercial back in the '90s - everyone complained about the prices then, when it cost about 1/3 what it costs today. I honestly dont know how anyone does it today. Work-related discounts, parents' money, student grants, spending half my paycheck. After getting the privates, I did a LOT of splitting-the-costs flights with friends & family. Joining CAP gets some free flight-time. Taking photographers up, offered my time to charities, cashing in a 401k, tagging alongwith pilot friends, became an aerial photographer (no experience necessary) so I could ask the PIC (who was an instructor)
to let me take over when I was not shooting pics. Theyre constantly hiring btw -

whatever it took to get another hour or so. Took awhile. Yes, any degree will do. Heck, go to a community college/state university and use the savings on a flight club or partial-ownership deal in a C150 or something. Pick a club with an instructor as a member. Sell your share when you are done. PROTIP: after you get your commercial, additional ratings are tax-deductable as a "necessary business expense"
