Personally, I'm having a hard time deciding weather this is more or less retarded than the three-hour Amtrak line that's going to start between here and Chicago any day now. On the one hand, the fantasy bullet train would take half as long to get to Chicago, but would cost a moderately sized fortune to build. On the other hand, you have the three-hour Amtrak line to Chicago, which is costing next to nothing to start since it'll use already existing freight lines, but only saves you about eight minutes over walking to Chicago.
