Would you leave a recumbent trike parked outside on the street in NYC locked up for months on end?

Because I want one so badly, but I don't think I could carry it up and down the stairs because of it's size. I guess I could leave it at a garage but they aren't responsible for stolen cars so I don't think that's much better.

>be a sprinter
>ride nothing but crappy city or hybrid bikes with platform pedals my whole life
>finally get a cyclocross bike with pedals with cages and straps and shit
>try to use the upstroke to generate more power
>doesn't fucking work, still get styled on by azns on their crappy road bikes
>today, ride home after having 4 beers at a bbq
>ride standing up, just as if sprinting
>activating quads and kicking dem feetz forward
>suddenly power, power and acceleration everywhere!!

Sup /n/. I am currently in the market for two new bikes, one for my fiancée and one for myself. We would be taking them from NJ over to Philadelphia via Patco on weekend trips and whatnot for getting around the city because as i'm sure you know its far simpler and much more fun to travel around the city by bike. Problem is, I haven't ridden in years and my last bike was a 1970's era BMX. I am pretty lost on what to look for in a good city bike (which COULD potentially get a little trail usage around here if we don't pick up some mountain bikes first). I will likely be shopping around for a used fixer upper locally because my budget is a little on the tight side. Any suggestions on what I should keep an eye out for? (Styles, brands, etc?)
