It was a system of government in South Africa between 1948 and 1994. In Afrikaans, it meant "apartness", or mandated segregation of each racial group.
• There were four groups classified by the government. Black, white, coloured (from black, white, and Asian intermarriages and relations) and Asian.
• The white minority controlled the country. It determined where a person might live, go to school and what jobs he could hold.
• All blacks were required to carry "pass books" containing fingerprints, photos and information on access to non-black areas.
• Residential areas were segregated, sometimes by means of forced removals.
• The government segregated education, medical care, beaches and other public services, and provided black people with services inferior to those of white people.
• Non-white political representation was abolished in 1970. That year, black people were deprived of their citizenship, legally becoming citizens of one of 10 tribally-based self-governing homelands called bantustans.
When did apartheid end?
In February 1990, then South African F.W. de Klerk announced Mr Nelson Mandela's release and began the slow dismantling of apartheid.
In 1994, the first democratic elections were held in South Africa, with people of all races being able to vote. A Government of National Unity was formed, with Mr Mandela as president and Mr de Klerk and Mr Thabo Mbeki as deputy presidents.
Let's say you're one of the few people that wish /pol/ was better than it is. Are the text boards a good place to organize out of the site of shitposters and trolls and infiltrators?
Seriously who care whether Iran is an threat, America is bad or demon come out to play? Or White is Supreme and Jews are Nigger???
At least some real people with political knowledge share world class international politics news article and we should give them a clap, so are thread on how-to-do-it like the public speaking thread. A big salute for these people who truly contributed to /newpol/ and brighten our day!
With recent statements by virtually all leaders in Europe and the elections of many far right parties, the beginning of the RIGHT WING REVOLUTION has begun...
I just learned that the Civil Rights Act of 1968 doesn't protect people with different sexual orientation (aka faggots). That's great news! thanks Wikipedia! now I know that I can deny gays to buy stuff in my store:
To those of you, who believes America is a bad country, lets compare America to Russia:
In America: - Army Service is completely voluntary. Soldiers are well trained, well paid and respected professionals. - Income tax is just 10% and first 10000$ don't even get taxed at all. You are free to pick your own pension fund. - When you apply for a job in America, you get asked about your professional skills and that is all. - Americans don't care if you atheist or visit Church or what church you visit, and if you support some political party or not - that is just you rightful opinion. - Internet is mildly monitored.
In Russia: - Army service is mandatory for all people under the age of 30. You cant get official job, without serving the army, because Military Ministry of Russia forbids companies to hire "deserters". You can't even leave Russia, without serving the army, because Russian Federal Migration Service requires military ID card from Military Commissariat. Major ways to avoid serving the country is falsifying schizophrenia or chopping a leg off. There is no professionalism in Russian army and homosexual culture is rampant - if you got into Russian military, you almost guaranteed to experience anal sex, unless you parents bribe the officers there. - Income tax is just 15% and doesn't include your income. Moreover, you are forced to pay government for social securities (like pensions), you don't use anyway - basically Russian government forces you to pay for its pensioners. - When you apply for a job in Russia, you are asked about your military ID card and forced to pay for mandatory (by government) medical examination (in government clinic). If you don't have money, when you apply for a job, then you are fucked. And you can't apply for a job, if you haven't served the army. - The only two official religions are the branches of Orthodox Church and Sunny Islam (only for Islamic republics) - both are centralized and controlled by the government. You can be an atheist, but that would imply a multitude of social problems and problems with government, which basically requires all social servants to visit orthodox church, like the CPSU before. - Internet is heavily monitored. Sites may be closed for just criticizing the Orthodox Church or the government.
She has some interesting insights into the way the world works. Now I realize some of you suspect she might be schizophrenic, schizotypal personality disorder or a damaged hippocampus making her believe everything is somehow important and interconnected, but she does actually raise some fair points if you think about it.
The way I see it, everyone has their faults but everyone has their virtues and something to bring to the table. You don't ignore everything someone has contributed just because of one small flaw or mistake.
So, it looks like lots of whiny GOPers are declaring the mandate unconstitutional (Romney gets a pass for some reason). The way this is playing out is done in such a fashion that is designed to eventually demand the Supreme Court rule on the issue.
What do you think is going to happen? Do you believe the entire law will be deemed unconstitutional, or just the mandate?
Striking down the mandate would be a nightmare, as premiums would rise to considerably high levels.
