That's how gay people feel, but in the inverse. Their genetics and social factors dictated (beyond their control) that they would be sexually attracted to people of their own gender. They can't imagine what it would be like to be with a woman in the same way you couldn't imagine what it would be like to be with a man.

I'm sure for some people it is a difficult choice. For me, it is very easy to choose to love women. For others, I'm sure it is very difficult, while the alternative is very easy. Still others can't decide and love both.
Let me use an analogy.
Some people are more genetically inclined to steal.
'm just going to throw this out there, because I know you're having trouble envisioning it, but consider this: You know how think stealing is wrong? You know how much all that shit just disgusts you? You know how you can't even imagine what it would be like to steal something? The idea does nothing for you?
That's how thieves feel, but in the inverse. Their genetics and social factors dictated (beyond their control) that they would be more inclined to steal. They can't imagine what it would be like to live a boring life where you have to earn money.

>>7844599 First let me address the biological side. Are there people who actively choose, without any underlying biological sensation, to engage in sexual or emotional intimacy with members of the same sex. Yes there are, although they are a small minority of people who identify as not heterosexual. So, that leads to the question, are there people who, due to their biology, there genes, dispositioned from birth to be attracted to members of the same sex? Yes. Absolutely.
Is there such a thing as a gay gene? No, no more than there is such a thing as a straight gene or a serial killer gene. behavioral composition isn't that simple in higher mammals. There are entire strata of genes that code for certain behavioral substrates, in short, we are fucking complex creatures dog. We DO, however, know from population studies, that pretty much every species of mammal on the planet exhibits a 10-12% rate of homosexuality. It's not just people, its all mammals so far as we can tell. We see the same rate of observed homosexuality regardless of culture in people. We know it's genetic, we can't point to exactly what genes code for sexuality, no more than we can point to the exact genes that lead to dementia in old age
The vast majority of gay people have no choice in who they find themselves attracted to. They are a product of their biology, in much the same way that someone who is born black has very little control over what their skin color is. They are born that way. To hate someone for being gay is to me, the same as hating someone for being black.
I had many gay friends in college. Many of them, were their sexuality a choice, would have chosen to be straight. I had a close friend who completely lost his family because of his sexuality, and it almost destroyed him emotionally. Believe me, if it was a choice, he would have chosen something different
You do not have to agree with the morality of homosexuality to understand that ETHICALLY, they deserve equality

While others countries have had boobs on prime time TV and dealt with the issue of homosexuality with relative easiness, America just flips it shit when it comes to dealing with sexual things, in much the same way we flip out any time someone wants to talk about guns.
And we stand in the weird middle ground where we don't hide it, or pretend it doesn't exist, like some cultures (most of asia), but we didn't wrap it in one take either. And that traces directly to the religious underpinnings by which most "morality" is taught in the US. We can adapt, but we have to burn a church or two down to do it usually.

How we deal and legislate law around a mental illness can not be treated in the same way as something that is simply a genetic trait like eye color or skin tone.
