Alright /g/, my cameras (Canon IXUS85 IS) battery (NB-6L) is dead and canon wants to charge me AU$80 (US$87.60) for the pleasure of a new battery. For me, this seems outrageous to charge that highly for a battery which didn't really last that long.

My question to you, is can I trust any ebay sellers? Prices range from 99c to ~$20, with sellers from hong kong to the usa.

I've bought SLR batteries from Ebay/Hong Kong in the past. Haven't had any issues with them. Can't say if they last longer/shorter than brand batteries since I use them in a battery grip.

I personally don't own one of those Giotto ones (I have a cheap, standard blower, basically similar to the picture but without the fins on the bottom) but I saw one for sale the other day and it was pretty pricey for some rocket-shaped pump

Less chance of damaging the coating.

Also, recessed lens elements are often a pain to wipe with a cloth.

That's actually one of my current problems with my sensor. Got some really stubborn spots. I guess I'll check them out some day and maybe I won't have to invest extra for sensor cleaning after all.

Anyway, I've got one of these. http://www.nrdfirefly.com/. Reports I've read online suggest that the ionization trick it does actually does work, but I don't know if it actually works well enough to justify the price premium since I've never tried the cheap ones. It's never let me down, though, if that's any indication. And at the time I bought it, I was supporting a local business since the company who makes 'em was located about five miles from my apartment, so that felt good.

Well, the white tree is larger so he had to shift the phograph to gain balance (maybe they were growing like that).
I can't tell much about the light because of all the post process. It does look like the sun was behind the trees though.
Also, tell your teacher he is overrated and a cunt because he was butthurt when William Eggleston got into MoMA.

Yeah sorry, I scanned it from a book so it's not as clear on computer. And I don't want to choose a different photo cause we have to take photos using ideas that he's used in some of these photos, or edit the photos to look like it (so much for good photography). Point is, I don't live somewhere that I can replicate Yosemite Park so I have to choose simple images.

I'm not just going to take a photo of two trees. I was planning to use contrast in a similar way that he did. This one is just for analyzing, I have to choose 9 other photos of his to get ideas/techniques from. It's not just this one.

This is a bad idea. By that logic, you'd want Lomography gear to be reviewed only by downtown hipsters.

It's expected that a wide-circulation newspaper would have a fairly simplistic review aimed at an average reader. If you want a more sophisticated approach, there is a myriad of other sources, from Luminous Landscape to DxO.

- It's not a bad photo actually.

also... he's confusing the Sony NEX-5 with the Samsung NX5.

Well, maybe Fujifilm will have to make more X100 cameras to sell to the New York Times readers who hang on every word from David Pogue's column. He and Walt Mossberg (WSJ) cater to readers who desperately want to feel cool because they own the right model iPhone, etc..

The PLUS is that a lot of barely used X100 cameras will show up on Craigslist and eBay. if articles by Pogue and Mossberg cause higher sales, then maybe Fujifilm will recoup their R&D sooner and we'll see a X200 a year sooner.

The MINUS ... well, I can't really think of anything.

Is there a way to disable scrolling with the marquee tool? Or just make it slower, especially when you're holding shift?

Whenever I go to make a selection with the marquee tool, if I'm holding shift and the cursor moves off the screen a little, my image flies off the screen and I'm in grayspace. Is there a way to turn this off, or like I said make it slower?

i rarely use the marquee tool. your claim that you get paid to photoshop is pretty weak given that you cant solve a very simple problem of creating a good selection. not to mention you use the marquee tool and talk about how you care about not having godawful result.

If you are getting close to the edge of the document, hold the space bar.. it should enable the hand tool and let you drag the view across so you can free up space.

Proud of the fact you achieved nice panning, good shot.
Flaws:
_quite blown highights, a little less exposure woud have been better, an overcast weather would have be ideal;
_the worst thing is the lack of details... the sensor has reached its limits and noise reduction overkilled everything.

Tip? Shoot RAW, play with image conversion on your PC fine tuning every parameter.
