Hey /p/

I need some /adv/ but since it's camera related I feel like you guys would understand better. My girlfriend and I are saving up for a house and are planning to get married.. I am currently unemployed (my boss retired) and I am looking for work. I really want a new camera but refuse to spend any of our savings. I was talking to my mother about my photography (which is my passion and ONLY hobby) and she is willing to loan me $1,000 and let me pay her back in increments (obviously without any interest lol) but my girlfriend would NOT approve and would be very mad if she found out that 1: I hadn't told her and 2: I owe money to my parents because I wanted to buy a camera when we are trying to save.

What should I do? I love my girlfriend very much and I tell her everything but I know she wouldn't approve and I really want it.

I finally got my tax return and finally have extra cash to get into my photography hobby. I'll be getting $1000 back and will be spending this all on getting equipment to get me started. I've done some searching and reviewing and have compiled a list of equipment that should be suitable to get me going. Please let me know what you think of my choices. I'm new to digital photography so your feedback is very much appreciated.

So here's one of my best Bin Laden photos from when I visited India. He was kind of shy but actually really nice. In fact, all the Bin Ladens were really nice. I'd love to see any other fellow photo traveler's Bin Laden pics as well.

I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm going to Ottawa in a few weeks and I want to have a ultra-wide angle lens for the trip (cool buildings and all) and it is justified because I do mostly landscape and travel photography anyway.

So I was going to buy the Sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6 for my Nikon D5000, but then I found a place that rents lenses and I can rent a Nikon 10-24 3.5-4.5 rather cheaply for the weekend (or a 12-24 for the same cost). But I would like a wide-angle lens to own, as I again do lots of travel and landscape stuff. So should I just buy the Sigma now or rent the Nikon and save my money to get something better in a few months time (when I get my taxes back and have about $1000 for a lens)? And if I should wait what lens would you suggest at that time (keeping in mind I have no internal motor, so sadly no Tokina 11-16)?
