I'm aware this won't be a sticky, but it will be close (since threads last freaking forever on /po/)
General Info for the Papercrafting Public
Don't bump a thread within the first couple days. If it's still in the first 5 pages, you're good for a while.
Google before asking for something. 80% of the time it'll be within the first 5 results. If you don't find it, then ask here.
The average glue used for papercraft is Aleene's Tacky Glue, and average paper is: Smaller projects - 32lb (120gsm) Larger projects - 60lb (comment for gsm here, I don't know it)
If something fails to open in Pepakura Designer, try it in Viewer. If it asks for a password, definitely try Viewer.
Pdos don't open on Mac without use of Bootcamp or virtualization to run Windows. So if you ask, let it be about one of those things.
You can print pdfs from a pdo with a PDF printer. A basic example of this is CutePDF -
http://www.cutepdf.com If you're having trouble with white edges, try edge coloring with something like colored pencils. If you're having trouble with white folds, ditch your laser printer.
Scissors work good for some parts, xacto knives for others. Try each out, see which one works best for you.
If you want to start making papercrafts (with models, not just build) look into programs like Metasequoia, Blender, Milkshape, Google Sketchup, or 3DS Max for 3D modeling and Photoshop or GIMP for image editing.
I'll compile a list of links for mentioned programs after this post. I also have no idea about origami, so if anyone has any comments relating to that, by all means go ahead. I probably missed a few things regarding papercraft too, so any (serious) suggestions are welcome.

"Don't bump a thread within the first couple days." Unless it's this one.... If we keep it bumped to the top of the pile it will 'in effect' be a 'sticky'.

Good thread here, OP It would also be nice if we could inspire the mods to add a piece of code to let us upload pdo's, just as pdf's.

Suggestion: In order to keep this thread as long as possible you can delete your bump posts. The thread will stay on page 1 but the count will stay the same as before you bumped. To delete a thread you open up the thread as usual usuing reply. To select a post you click in the little box beside the title and to delete that post you click on the delete button at bottom right (next to the report button). You can only delete your own posts and there does seem to be a time limit after which it won't let you delete, presumably because the automatic password changes.

Actually when I made the Chelsea model her legs weren't matched up perfectly (her left leg is about a quarter of an inch too far out) so she doesn't stand properly, I was considering putting something heavy in her feet, or magnets, but in the end I made the whole thing sealed and hoped for the best. It's something that I'd be interested to see though, how other people do it.

Bump And also does anyone know how to change the colour of the printed lines in Pep? Printing onto black paper is a bitch so I wanted to change the lines to yellow or something visible.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>445706 One of two ways:
1) Go to Settings: Other Settings: and check the box that says "Draw white line under dot line"
2) Right click on the right side, select "Color Edge", and have the color you want the lines to be selected. Sometimes you may have to click the option "Hidden Lines" (in Color Edge) too, if the designer is retarded and tried to hide their mistakes or something.
Third option is print lineless, but that's kind of assumed.

Hey guys, getting into papercrafting. Just have a quick question. You don't run the paper you're using through the printer, right? How do I print? Should I cut them out on multipurpose paper and paste them on to the paper I use?

>>430177 Looks like mostly flat printers, which concern me a bit. I'm running an old EPSON Stylus CX3810. Tons of problems, I should probably get a new printer, but can't afford one right now...
It bends the paper at... I'd say somewhere between 30 to 45 degrees. 65/110 lb paper find to run through that?
I also have a samsung laser printer but that thing takes a full 180 in the center so there is no way I could run thick paper in there. Its also got a lot of other problems I'd rather not deal with.
I definitely want to get into this and bought most of the primary tools but the lack of directions on this is making it quite difficult to start up on.

http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/ ), line them up and paste them on a huge piece of paperboard, and you've got yourself a nice massive project.

This is something I've been meaning to ask. When cutting out your papercraft, where do you cut (in regards to the outline)? Outside the line, inside, or on?
