>>6831598I do think some offenders would be better served with some time in the military than prison, but we aren't fighting the kind of wars where penal battalions are useful.
>>6834031Like I said, the prison rape shit is overblown. The way housing areas at the facility I worked at were put together, the classic "hold you down in the shower" rape would be difficult to do. There's a waist-high wall separating the shower area from the dorm officer's desk, and showers in the cellblocks are just a converted cell. You tell the guard when you want to shower, and he opens your cell and the door to the shower cell. Upon entering, he closes the door to both.
If by some run of poor luck you do get raped, report it to guards and medical ASAP. You can be put on an emergency crash course of antiretrovirals, which will usually prevent you from being infected with HIV and developing AIDS.
>>6835131Most don't. The facility I worked at was government-run, but produced enough crops to feed all the prisons in the state and add to the school lunch program. There was a license plate and wheelchair factory, plus cattle and horse auctions from the prison livestock. We also held a rodeo which attracts a shitload of tourists and media coverage, with corporate sponserships as well.
>>6838397You can request protective custody, but you'd get bored stiff and not make any money for the canteen. Plus they'd be constantly trying to move you out for people in actual danger.
>>6838453Sometimes yes, but if you're ripped or can connect with other people from your hometown area you'll probably be alright. People from the same area tend to stick together and look out for each other.
