Detecting when people lie online

A new study has found that when people lie in digital messages - texting, social media or instant messaging - they take longer to respond, make more edits and write shorter responses than usual.

"Digital conversations are a fertile ground for deception because people can easily conceal their identity and their messages often easily conceal their identity and their messages often appear credible," said Professor Tom Meservy, Brigham Young University professor of information systems. "Unfortunately, humans are terrible at detecting deception. We're creating methods to correct that."

He and other researchers created a computer program that carried out online conversations with participants, who were told a tie at specific times.

Lie responses took 10 per cent longer to create and were edited more, said the university in a statement.

[1151090958] Linksys WUSB54G wireless adapter

Posting this on /comp/ but no reply :S

anyway here is the original post verbatim:

Hey,

I recently bought a linksys wusb54g adapter to connect to a wag354g. the router is working fine as far as i can tell, but the computer the adapter is plugged into sporadically freezes, and the adapter looses all power, although everythin else has power.

i'v got the gateway on max security (changed password, non 'linksys' SSID, no SSID broadcast, WAP-PSK-TKIP (3600 second lap), MAC filtering)

would any of those affect it? if not wot the hell is?!??!

thanks

we have taken over the world, they will
believe and we can start giving out orders..

Idiot here
I need to find out what exactly you CAN do in Academic Edition of IT Guru.
From what I gather wireless support is shit and I shouldn't bother with it, but what good results I can obtain from research in it? Can I toy around with vlans, firewalls in more complex way or only simplest simulations can be made in AE?

Share your adventures with assembly language and programs written in assembly.
I've been coding on and off for about six months now. The best one I've coded so far(I'm still working on it, the code needs to be cleaned up and I should use a better random number generator than nrandom) is a Russian Roulette program that shuts down your computer if you loose.

US student, 15, is tech millionaire

Consulting firm he started at 12 now worth US$3.5 million

THE big names in technology started early. Steve Jobs was 21 when he started Apple Computers. Mark Zuckerberg started Facebook after his sophomore year in college.

At 15, Jaylen Bledsoe has plenty of time to join those illustrious ranks.

The high school student from the US state of Missouri has turned his tech start-up into a multi-million-dollar venture, reported Mail Online.

And he did that without missing class.

He founded Bledsoe Technologies, an information technology consulting company, when he was just 12 years old. His firm helps companies with website design, graphics and other technology consulting services, KTVI-TV reported.

Jaylen started with two employees and now has about 150 contract employees.

His start-up is now worth about US$3.5 million.

Said his father, Curtis: "I don't see many eighth graders do the things that he does, but it's all his doing. I'm very proud of him."

Gifted

Jaylen credits a web design class, offered as a part of his school's gifted education programme, as the foundation for his business.

He told KTVI-TV: "There's nothing you can do as a minor that will shoot you down for too long. Because you're young, you can always jump back up and keep going."

He said he will be working with hotels for his next project, creating a mobile app that lets customers check in online and use their phones to unlock their rooms.

He wants to attend undergraduate school at Vanderbilt University and then go to Harvard for his graduate degree. He is now at Mary Institute & St. Louis Country Day School, a private school.

When he is not busy running his company, he takes on more typical high school roles such as being president of the Student Council and the Parent Teacher Student Association.
