Hiking(Solo)

No.461577 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I'll be backpacking Europe, and plan on doing a lot of hiking in both Switzerland(early november) and Norway(Early-mid december).

The thing is, i'm flying solo and while i'm not an passionate hiking i've done a fair bit but only in groups organised by someone else.

What are some tips for hiking solo?
I'll be hiking places that seem to be fairly touristy places (Preikestolen as an example.).

Is it advisable i join into a guided hike , or just be a man and go it alone?

Pic related, it'd be nice if i had someone to take photo of me at my destinations.

What are the most populated downtown areas in Toronto, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans, and Atlanta? Going on a road trip and would like to know where to head in the cities.

Thanks!

ITT: Post your life stories.

I'm 20 years old and have recently returned from backpacking in Indochina (was there 3months). I want to go back and explore some more countries, but it's easier said than done. Parents are against it. Inb4 im 20 I can do what I want... the thing is, I respect their opinion but I'm not sure whether I should listen to them.

I start with uni in mid-september and will have very little time for travel in the next 5years :/ (it's very hard to go study abroad at my uni) . I have nothing to do until mid-september. I can alternatively go work something...

Anyway.. I want to hear your stories. How have you dealt with travel, studying and work? How old are you? What have you done in your life? What you would change if you could? I need some ideas.

Hey /trv/

I'm currently studying Journalism and in our last semester we have to go to Stockholm. When we get back we have to do a presentation on the city itself.
We don't really want to go and see the things everyone already knows of, so what are some things we should check out that nobody will be familiair with. The crazier the better!

Has anyone actually done the WWOOF thing?

I saw it mentioned on /trv/ a few times so I decided to check it out, and it's definitely something I'm interested.

This is my plan. Work on a farm or 2 here in the States, then head down to Mexico and possibly Central America. I would like to stay longer than shorter durations (1-3 months at any given farm).

I was just curious, if someone has done this or if they know of anyone who has, if they have any tips or pointers for me? Anything I should know at all going into it.
