Honestly, I think some people are really full of themselves, and I think art is a field of human faculties that gives that kind of space for people to be eccentric and overboard, but I don't think it's ever justified.
Because art is something that relates directly to our feelings, there really is such a thing as "you either get it or you don't", and some people take advantage of that, by putting on this facade of "misunderstood genius", they're scammers.
Most people I've known/heard of who were really geniuses were also very modest and down-to-earth. And I guess you could say that is the case with most autistic people, since they are very much in their own world, they always seem quiet/shy, so I see where you're coming from. But remember that not all autistic people are what we call "Idiot savants"
