The rankings do confirm two things: One, Madoka is a very hot doujin property and two, it seems fans prefer non-hentai titles for them, preferably with yuri.

Some Madoka ones in the mix. I like how they plan to pair up Kyouko and Sayaka before they're even finished because they know that's what the fans want in Japan. You see KyouSaya is in a lot of top selling doujins and I bet their popularity is only going to increase after BD Volume 5 comes out with their character song duet.

No, I for one want a Homura and Madoka one. I know people see the similarities but Homura and Madoka are their own distinct characters with a distinct relationship that imo is different and better than Chikane and Himeko in KnM. I also think Homura and Madoka are both more likeable.

Homura and Madoka do have more in common with Hazuki and Hatsumi than Chikane and Himeko, specially how both Hatsumi and Madoka ultimately do whatever they want regardless of what Hazuki and Homura felt about it.

As Urobuchi himself stated, Madoka never understood Homura. Only after she became god-like she could understand, but then it was already pointless. This why Urobuchi admits that for Homura the ending was a cruel one.

In other words, Homura and Madoka's feelings never connected, and IMO that's the fundamental difference between Madoka and KnM: unlike Homura and Madoka, Chikane and Himeko ultimately did understood each other.

That's no to say Madoka's ending isn't good, but it's a resolution brought about by a personal decision (Madoka's decision), and so it's definitely less satisfying that an ending that comes from two people understanding each other, more so if you're watching for yuri appreciation.

Did a check on tag popularity today (http://www.pixiv.net/tags.php) and found out Madoka's one of the top 10 for franchise, top 5 for anime after you toss out duplicates (three tag versions of Hetalia geez) and general tags (breasts and furries!) which shows Madoka in the top 10 for franchise popularity, top five for anime. Also everything ahead of it is much older so yeah, give it time to catch up to the yaoi (ok maybe that's hoping for too much). Also hm, didn't know Idolmaster was so popular until now.

No. I rather think she couldn't understand Homura BECAUSE her character was like that. Urobuchi makes clear there's just no way someone like Madoka could understand Homura. It was so impossible for a girl like her that only when she got the power of god she could begin to understand.

As Urobuchi stated, Madoka was about people trying to connect with each other (understand each other) but never succeeding. That's was like the fucking point, so....

Realistically, how could anyone really understand Homura without seeing it first hand, e.g. having gone through it with her? The circumstances were too unusual and too horrible to comprehend by simply being told that. It's why we're suppose to understand Homura having difficulty with people believing her when she tries to tell them the truth. Geez, yuri doesn't even have half as many entries as yaoi... that said, there seems to be a lot of Touhou yuri art that isn't properly tagged. And I feel like I've seen 腐向け art that's just solo pictures of guys from fujoshi-aimed series.

Yet they're Magical Girls, fighting monsters inside what are essentially their own personal dimensions....

It's just one of those things that don't quite hold up as firmly in retrospect than it was during airing. Hind sight is 20/20, especially when the weekly adrenaline and anticipation have long worn off.
