I know the Japanese know of homosexuality and that it's not rejected as it is in the West. But if you look at it, people don't seen to grasp fully the concept of lesbianism.
Anyone here has seen that movie "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar" (Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, John Leguizamo), where the drag queens go to a country town and people don't know they're drag queens? They didn't hate them and it wasn't denial. Simply it was something that hadn't crossed their minds. They hadn't been made aware of it as a society, past rudimentary terms and abstract concepts; It's the same thing.
