Unskippable text, unskippable/pauseable cutscenes. And if I press the start button during a cutscene there should be a little prompt telling me if I now press another button, I can bypass the scene - making start the skip button by itself is not good games design.

I thought that the one-hit kill that Henry had in No More Heroes was awesome. The only 'cheap' kinds of boss attacks are those that have no sort of counter whatsoever - for example, unblockable, undodgeable attacks.

Oh man, that reminds me of the last boss in Champions: Return to Arms. My brother and I had made the mistake of taking the evil path, the last boss was some ridiculous shining paragon of good and he would traverse the arena with these lofty knee attacks, he would home in on you from about halfway across the stage, and dear god, if you were by his fucking knees, it was gg, he would knock you over instantly and proceed to wail on your face before kneeing down again. Luckily there was two of us so, we weren't locked into perma-stun.

Metroids environments were actually a pleasure to go through though. And not all the rooms were ever completely devoid of life. Pirates would re-inhabit them after the player leaves. Halo 1 had that grey, silver, shiny, sterile look that really made it seem boring and just a chore to trudge through.

Also, loading the god damned game every time I die. I hate this shit especially. Uncharted has ZERO load times when you die. ALL GAMES SHOULD DO THIS.

Once more, poorly placed checkpoints suck shit too. Penumbra Overture comes to mind; there is a checkpoint in a place where you will almost always die upon loading the checkpoint. Or, placing a checkpoint BEFORE a load screen is shit too.

I don't mind repeating the same level when its done well. Unfortunately, Halo didn't do it well. The indoor areas are bland enough as is, and it was a pain to remember that you need to walk against the arrows the second time.

Yeah, Uncharted is how all games should be with regards to loading times. One big loading time at the start and then nothing, literally nothing for the whole rest of the game. It helps it to flow so much better and you can actually get into the game without it stopping every 5 minutes to load.
Movies dont have to load between chapters and sections and hopefully we can see more games that take a similar approach.

forced bad camera angles, bad platforming in FPS's (looks at Max Payne dream sequences), monster rooms, omniscient AI, inconsequentiality of actions in supposed RPG's, scaled leveling, sparse save points/save allowances, palette swapping, escort missions, backtracking is not bad unless you can't find/figure out what the fuck you're looking for, I remember spending ridiculous amounts of time backtracking in super metroid and some fucking gba castlevania game, shit pisses me off, because you'll end up in the completely wrong area, scouring the map for the one door that you can now open, also how arcade games have parts intentionally placed to screw you over.
