I felt my stomach sink and kept walking, but at a faster pace.

In about 7 seconds I finished the third and final lap and immediately looked up.
I felt my heart go cold as I looked up and saw absolutely nothing.
Relief and fear mixed into one.
I was disappointed but relieved.
Everyone was upset with me and we all started walking back to the car in the little parking lot they have right before the gate.
I was the only one looking back though during the walk, you could tell they were scared.
I felt like I was robbed of something, I felt I deserved to see the ghost.
In a way I wanted to see the ghost, but I was also glad that I didn't.
As we get into the car, the silence broke with the sound of my Step-Dad laughing.
"Maybe next time kiddo!" he laughs out loud while starting the car.
As he laughs and pulls out of the parking spot, that's when I heard my Mom make that dreadful "OOOH!" squeal that just makes your heart drop. She shouts "LOOK LOOK!"
As we all look towards the top of the tower we see an old man with no expression looking directly at the gate which we forgot to close all the way.
My Older Sister started crying saying "Look what you did Anon! This is your fault!" as my Step-Dad repeats the word "fuck" in many variations while speeding out onto the highway.
However, for the first time ever, I stared at something I couldn't understand without fear, but wonder, and the words that came out of my mouth, I will always remember.
