The problem with saying, "you can keep whatever you find as a war memento..."

or, "keep them and sell them," is that it gives soldiers and incentive to pick up weapons in the field. The enemy sees you start collecting their equipment and starts boobie trapping it. People start grabbing soveneirs (sp? it's late...) and it's all over without a single shot fired.

Who cares about RPG-7 launchers, you cant own a functioning one. Or buy grenades for it.
As a USA civilian (with the money, time and connections) get an m203. Heck, theres only a $200 tax stamp on each 40mm grenade.

I thought it was standard policy to not leave loaded assault rifles (or rocket propelled grenade launchers) lying around?

IE police the weapons of the guys you shot if its possible to, so that his buddies don't just pick it up and use it to shoot you later.

Not quite accurate. Sure taxes were a reason for the United States to rebel against the crown. However the plight in that case was not the taxes themselves, instead it was because the colonies had no representation in the house of commons.

The fight was more akin to blacks and woman wanting to vote. Since all U.S. citizens can vote (minus minors and fellons) there should be no argument agaisnt tax.

The head honcho on US soil at the time of the revolution was appointed by the king. All the laws and taxes were controlled by people thousands of miles away and weeks removed who had no real interest in your issues and knew nothing of your situation.

They had bills to pay, so they just made up new taxes without even so much as consulting the locals.
That pissed more than a few people off and brought to light serious problems with how the colonies were being controlled.

All you have is the oppertunity to tell everyone how much this guys plans suck, so you can get someone in YOUR favor elected next time.

What it boils down to is the fact that the majority get to choose their direction, so most of the nation stays happy reguardless of how times change.

There's a couple of live registered RPG-7s in the 'States, but they're rarer than hen's teeth (like 2-3 total nationwide), and BATFE won't let more in. You can always load non-explosive (paint, flare, solid shot, etc) shells for whatever DD you have; those aren't regulated. 40mm paint shells are apparently quite common for M203/M79 NFA owners, for example, so making an RPG rocket with a paint warhead (and less than 4 ounces of propellant) wouldn't be illegal.

If people dont use their rights and are ok with letting themselves be bought out by politicians throwing your own tax money back at you like free candy, theres not much a piece of paper can do.
You choose the choosers and they choose how things run. If you dislike their choices then you un-choose them and give someone else a try.

Personaly I think sending politicians home early (recall) is alot more effective than waiting for terms to end or limits to kick in. If there was one thing I would change, it would be to make this a more common practice in US politics.

Thats a rant of its own tho...
