>>10453150It's extremely expensive and I think they push it too hard. Unlike what they're telling you, this is far from the only opportunity you'll have to travel. And any problems you're leaving behind will still be here when you're back.
Here's an alternative: conference travel. You get in on research with profs as an undergrad, a good idea anyways, and the school will often pay for you to go present it somewhere. You won't have a lot of choice about where, though. I got sent to Saigon and to Nice, France, and didn't really pay for either. Had a blast, and it was only for a couple weeks, so the logistics weren't a mess.
If you have something very specific in mind for study abroad, something career-related, it might be worth it. Otherwise, you're better off waiting for another opportunity to travel, up to and including simply doing it yourself. Again, they jack up fees like mad.
