/adv/. What the fuck is wrong with people? Why don't some give one single shit about current affairs?

Today I was talking to a friend of mine about Osama Bin Ladin being killed and this other friend of ours told us that "He did not care at all nor was did it affect him in anyway". I mean what the fuck, you don't have to go crazy-happy like the Americans did but still, not caring AT ALL? It's pretty huge (no matter what one thinks of it).

How can people go through life not caring about anything at all? The only thing I know this guy cares about his fucking stupid dog.,

Osama died and all I did was just continue my night as normal and go to bed. The only thing it changed is... it's a new subject for family and friends to talk about. Least for the next few weeks.

Why does it bother you? I'm a slacker who'd rather hang out with friends and enjoy life, rather than give two shits about the news, politics, religion debates... I mean, sure, it's hard to miss the news about Bin Laden, especially when you're on facebook, but otherwise, no, i don't check current events. It doesn't interest me. We, on the other hand, have to follow ridiculously complex rules of engagement before we shoot anyone. We aren't complete angels (I'm really fucking upset that we tortured people) but we're nowhere near their level.

"Osama Bin Laden has been killed by US Navy seals" did not make me well up with patriotism nor judicial pride. I started thinking about what a huge mistake and all the lies surrounding the Iraq War and how long it took to find Osama. Not to mention that even though Osama has been executed for his plan, HE is the winner because his purpose in the events of 911 were to propel the US into a frenzy of military spending that would bankrupt the US. Have you checked US military spending recently?

It's depressing. I don't want to think about it.

Um... I don't know about your friend, but I'm an american living in an area that was hit by the recession really hard. I have two months to find a decent job or I'll be out on the street. I also don't own a TV. Sometimes I miss world events because of the fact that I have other shit to do and when I'm not doing it, thinking about anything related to world events, money, or real life makes me want to an hero. I shut down and can't fucking deal with it.

My reaction when I heard Osama was dead was pretty much "so what... He's probably had one of the best deaths in 20 years... He accomplished nearly everything he wanted to accomplish... He got attention for his cause and most educated people believe we seriously need to get the fuck out of the Arab world and that Israel has gone too far. They also agree that we screwed them over.

He is not the only reason for our current economic crisis, but 9/11 was an important lynchpin that helped bring about the fucked up situation we're in now. And a good chunk of other nations fucking hate us for how we reacted to 9/11. He can die with confidence.

It took us 10 years to find and kill one man. And politicians are patting themselves on the back about it while children starve. I met a fucking hobo on the bus the other day. A real hobo who is going from homeless shelter to homeless shelter getting temp jobs and looking for work. YEAH. Osama's dead. So fucking what.

We expended trillions of dollars to fund wars and occupations of two foreign countries, one of which that had nothing whatsoever to do with the attack on our country and neither of which was Saudi Arabia (the home of the hijackers) or Pakistan (where Osama was.)

We are directly responsible for the deaths of more civilians than were killed in 9/11. We also lost more military personnel than the amount of people killed in 9/11.

All to kill a symbolic figurehead of an organization that idolizes martyrdom.

His death changes nothing. We are still going to be occupying Iraq and Afghanistan for indefinite periods of time. We are still going to be required to submit to intrusive body scans. We are still not going to collect Social Security when we retire. And we are still so far in debt to China that the children of your grandchildren will still be paying it off.

Because the main obstacle to me doing anything right now is constant fear for my life in circumstances I have little to no control over. My continued living is in the hands of strangers. Two years of my life free of fear wouldn't be so bad. Most people don't really want that much from "slaves" They want them to dress a certain way and let them fuck them. They want you to let them smack you around a bit, maybe. They want them to do housecleaning and cooking chores that would basically be shit I'd do for myself or at a shitty job anyway. And when I'm done, I have my degree, I get the fuck out, and I can have a life. I might not have a chance at that now. What's two years of my life compared to no life?

Why does anyone even feel the need to celebrate someone's death, even if it is Osama? This death is an excuse for people to become more divided amongst one another. Very true. I'm not female but I'm in the same situation. The requirements for jobs have gone up so much and I can't do much about it. I've graduated from high school and am 20, work hard. But that seems shit now adays. And since that means fuck all, I am looked over because there's even more 'qualified' (because they have a college degree or a driver's license) competing for jobs I'm trying to get.. I don't hate them, I just find it annoying people look to how many certificates you have now a days. Of course I'll be called lazy or something but in order for me to get those certificates, I need a job and there's near nothing here.
