They like to sleep in little dents in the snow. If someone's already made a nice one they'll go ahead and wedge themselves in there. Then they go to sleep, and perhaps have unusual patterns because they do come from part of the world where there's no night for a whole season.
That little indent just happens to be en route between the fascinating whirry thing and the rocks. I missed what abuse Spaghetti got, but it couldn't be worse than the big guy about 30mins ago who was rolled a fair distance and kicked in the face. It seems the big penguins just go to groom themselves instead of picking a fight like the little ones. The adelie seem especially scrappy.
Anyone else notice the gentoo are the most bothered by the camera?
