I'm looking for a dog that is very easy maintenance. Particularly I'm wondering if there are breeds of dogs whose hair keeps relatively short and doesn't shed much if at all.

What kind of dogs would you recommend?

Alternatively you can try picking up an older dog from the shelter and neatly skip over the whole training the puppy thing. Depends on what you term 'low maintenance', really. Are you looking for a dog that you don't have to spend obscene amounts of time grooming, or one that would be happy with a ten minute spin around the block once in the mornings and chill for the rest of the day?
