I generally have no problem with this. My pet lives a very comfortable life in a naturalistic enclosure FAR larger than the recommended minimum size for his species. I breed his food myself to be of the best quality possible. I occasionally give him a good, naturalistic hunt but he still has feeders sitting in a dish if he's feeling lazy.
He's never handled when he's not in the mood, and he's allowed to hide from me in total security unless he MUST be moved for cage cleaning/renovation/etc. that could potentially hurt him. He enjoys multiple enrichment activities and already has a mate picked out for when he's large enough to breed.
Anyone that thinks I shouldn't have my monitor lizard is mad.
