My 9 year old golden retriever was recently diagnosed with spleen cancer. A mass showed up in his ultra sound and a biopsy was sent to a pathologist.

The cancer has not yet spread and the vet recommended surgery. The manner she explained it in sounded like this surgery would be a "routine" removal of the tumor... and not his entire spleen.

After doing some research it seems the standard procedure is to remove the entire spleen whether the tumor is malignant or benign, though I'm not sure what to expect anymore.

I have a consultation scheduled with the surgeon tomorrow.
Any advice?
