Ive wanted a pet bearded dragon for a long time. Over the past few weeks, Ive been doing lots of research and have been trying to find a reliable place to get one...
Anyway, I found this on craigslist.

I dont think beardies are supposed to look like that? Correct me if Im wrong, but you can see the spine and ribs of this poor animal, and it only has one working eye... and this guy wants $100 for it.
I dont know what to do. I want to call this guy and give him hell. I also want to save this reptile. But I dont have a $100 and he lives WAY too far away.
Is there anything I can do? I am in NO way asking for money. Just advice and opinions.

I would NOT buy that lizard if I were you. Judging from the size of it, it's already a year or two old. Something looks wrong with its back right leg (again, could be the picture angle). Not too sure about the ribs, my beardie's ribs were sometimes visible, and I fed him pretty well. Also, one working eye? No, that beardie probably has more things wrong with it than the seller is letting you know. I don't know what you should do in this situation, but I'm pretty sure you should NOT buy that beardie, especially as it's likely to be near the end of its life if it has been kept in poor conditions.

Yeah, I also noticed the dent. Could be the lighting.
Like I said, I dont have a $100 and would NEVER give this guy my money.
But I dont want this poor animal to suffer. The guy said hes moving and he has to get rid of it, and hes obviously not taking care of it... It just really pisses me off that such a dumbass would want a $100 for a neglected animal.

Im thinking of calling or emailing this owner and trying to convince him to give me the beardie and the set up for free (or for like, 20 bucks? Idk) Do you think that would work?
At least then I could properly take care of it before it dies. He said its about 5 years old, I dont know how much longer it would live. I just want to give it a nice, peaceful life...

That or report them for neglect. Hell do both and let them know you will adopt the animal if they find the conditions to poor to leave with the owner.

I don't know if that would be wise. If you do happen to get the beardie, there's the possibility of it carrying parasites/diseases/other dangerous bacteria that could potentially mess up any future hopes of owning a herp if every step isn't perfectly handled.

I think the best you could do is, if you DID somehow obtain this beardie, to take it to a rescue organization, or else try to bring the poor thing to the attention of the nearest rescue organization in this guy's area.

I think, if you're dead set on trying to help/obtain the beardie, you should first try to convince this guy to give the beardie to his local rescue organization, and if that fails, try to haggle with him, as it is NOT worth paying $100 (that you say you can't afford) for a beardie that is apparently five years old, assuming the guy's telling the truth.

Concerning reptile rescues, I dont think there are any in my area. Ive been looking everywhere for a reputable place that sells or breeds beardies, and Ive had no luck. There is this:

but its in seattle... still pretty far away, seeing how my only form of transportation is the bus system.
I could send the ad to PNHS and hope they would be able to help me. Im going to try and email the guy as well.

I just sent an email to the camano island spca with a link to the craigslist ad. I asked them if they could help, and if not, could they tell me someone that COULD help. Hopefully they will respond.
I think Ive done all that I can. I dont think emailing this guy will solve much now that I've reported him. I hope that someone will be able to help this poor beardie, because I sure cant... and I feel so shitty about it.

I'm sorry, perhaps I'm being pessimistic, but I feel like that poor beardie is already as good as dead. It looks like it's in such bad shape that it's beyond rescuing.
Nothing on that lizard looks healthy, and that dent is far from normal... Part of me wants to even say that lizard in the picture is actually dead.

Beardies are mass produced now. I had mine for about 3 years and she died one day out of nowhere. That Beardie in the pic looks sick. Beardies are great reptiles to start out with if you never owned a reptile before. I think beardies in general are not that smart when compared to other reptiles. I don't believe that they can recognize their name, be potty trained, or figure out things. I own a Tegu now and I am very happy with him. Tegus get much bigger, but they are smarter and you don't have to feed them insects their whole life.

Do not feed your beardie dry food or canned food or any of that crap.

those "dents" in his head are actually where you would normally find two fat deposits in a healthy beardie. whaever he is dieing fromm hes already depleted his fat resources and is now going through muscle, i dont think he is going to live, but if you can plead to get him free, you may be able to save him by force feeding him medicine, but if he has an impaction thats probibly why he isnt eating in the first place so i dont know he would have to see a vet
