corgis and shiba inus are kind of 360. shibas are probably the better hiking dog. the corgis stumpy legs are an obvious disadvantage when it comes to uneven terrain. but the are enthusiastic workers, want to please, easy to train. shibas, however are not as in tune with owners as much as a corgi would be. they are not easy to train, have no willingness to please, and are highly independent. corgis are prone to "small dog syndrome", and shibas are prone to dog aggression. both need a good amount of exercise.
for me, ide personally get a corgi over a shiba...but thats because i love a dog thats willing to please, and highly trainable. and i dont hike as much. if youre one of those people that hike at least twice a week, every week.. it might be a little tough for a corgi to handle tough terrain. shibas might actually be a better choice if you dont mind their independent streak, combined with difficulty to train. highly dont recommend unleashing a shiba. they have high prey drive. so if they see a small animal run off....good luck getting him back. plus with that hard to train trait...its going to be near impossible to recall a shiba. ive also heard shiba inus make demon noises. i guess thats a bonus?
