How does /an/ feel about bark collars? My dog barks at EVERYTHING, family members included, and I'm going to be moving to an apartment in the fall, so I can't have it constantly making noise.

She would probably only wear it for a few hours while I'm in class, as she's usually sitting with me while I'm at home and I can easily calm her down.

I've never used one of these collars before. Are they cruel? Are they effective? And will they have any lasting effect on the dog's behavior if I happen to use one?

We usually walk her 5 times a week, but we play a whole lot and she wrestles with the other dogs every night for 10-20 minutes at a time, so she gets quite a bit of exercise and is usually the first one to bed.

Dogs need to go out several times a DAY. where does your dog relieve themselves? Think about taking your dog on long trips to the park on weekends if you can't spend much time with them at home, especially since you will be moving her away fro an environment where she gets attention from other dogs and people.

Oh, well right now I'm living in a house so they've got a big back yard to run around in. They run around plenty, but obviously they like walks more.

putting your dog in a backyard doesnt really mean shit. are you getting mental and physical exercise by watching some birds in your backyard for 2-3 hrs? no. what have you tried to stop the barking? anti-bark collars are useless if you dont know how to use them.

I would highly encourage WALKS three times a day, and see if that helps improve with the barking.

Running around and playing with other dogs are good too, but seriously walks are where it's at.

Also, I just pulled this from a website:

"If your dog is barking and you react by giving him a comforting cuddle or a treat of some sort, you are definitely encouraging your dog to bark again. By doing this you are communicating to your dog that you are happy with him. You should be making it clear that his excessive barking is inappropriate and won't be tolerated."

I would google various how to control dog barking/stop dog barking websites/videos.

On one hand I know how annoying a barking dog can be, but on the other hand, it might be very frustrating and confusing for a dog to be f.e. squirted with citronella when it does what it considers to be INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT BUSINESS.
It's a way they communicate, not only with other dogs, but also with you, to let you know that there might be something approaching your property.
I don't know if my dog barks "a lot", but he has an annoying howl-bark that resonates, especially at night. I don't think I could put a bark collar on him, because it would be just... really cruel (and I'm not even one of these who call abuse on people who use corrections and punishment). I usually just call him back home when he sets off barking for stupid reasons. He almost never barks at home, only when he hears the gate/doorbell (although it's usually just one alarming half-bark) or something really fishy happening.
