The thing was 50 megatons. The difference in size up to 100 megatons isn't exactly doubled, it's a lot higher than double.
The thing was a Fusion bomb, the only one tested, because in order to get enough power to cause the Fusion reactions (to charge two atoms at another with such force for them to fuse together) they needed two bombs. One was the standard Fission bomb, similar to the Hiroshima bomb. That is the firing pin. The force of that reaction made the Fusion reaction possible. This made, effectively, a second sun be created on the surface of the Earth for a split second.
They never made another one because there was a Global agreement, the US and the USSR, about such things, as they both knew that they could destroy the world in minutes with them.
