Human remnants RPG thread continuing. Here's some info on alien species and background on the story so far.

Four thousand humans escaped the destruction of Earth in an 'Ark', a massive ship containing vehicles, resources, and the sum of human knowledge to accompany them to a nitrogen-oxygen planet thirty light years away. After more than a hundred thousand years of cryogenic sleep, the humans have woken up on this strange planet.

So far they have formed relations with the indigenous virmiems, are at war with a race called the aurigni, and been more than a little bit inconvenienced by massive energy-based life forms (recently confirmed as intelligent) called the procella. We have just won a major engagement with the aurigni by detonating a thermonuclear bomb that destroyed their mothership, though this has backfired slightly in that it caused the procella to move into the affected area, attracted by the radiation, bringing their cancer-causing and tech-frying energy storms with them. We have captured some ruined aurigni tech and three live prisoners, though they are quickly dying thanks to the storms. One of the prisoners revealed that the aurigni Emperor and his child died in the battle we won. The Emperor was basically a god and his child was to be the 'new incarnation' when he inherited his father's position, with both dead it seems the aurigni are leaderless.
