>>474702542Slut-shaming is a manifestation of the low-level misogyny that is present in most societies. There are large numbers of both men and women who take part in this form of social policing, but they for ostensibly different reasons.
Freer expression of sexuality would be highly disruptive to the present-day distribution of social and economic goods, and thus there are many stakeholders in the status quo (whether they realize this consciously or not).
Many women seek to maintain an environment in which their sexual capital is a scarce commodity and can be enjoyed by male partners only through the investment of significant time and resources. "Sluts" are disruptive to this regime.
Many men (whether consciously or through cultural conventions) seek to maintain an environment in which their female partner's sexual fidelity (and thus the paternity of any children born with in their union) can be assured. This is also of obvious importance in areas such as property law and inheritance.
For such men, "sluts" are something that can be appreciated and enjoyed -- provided the sluts in question are not one's own committed sexual partner or female offspring. Thus the contradiction that you highlight.
