I hope you decided to read it. I love it. It is long, but that's because it's literally about just about everything a person will experience in their life. The book is a memory, not necessarily a linear narrative. It is not at all fast paced, but I feel that there is at least one really interesting insight per page, and you get used to the way it flows. I haven't read anything else that as clearly describes emotions and social interactions. Proust really appreciates everything, especially people, even those he doesn't like. At this point he feels like a reliable friend who has an accurate explanation why people do the things they do. It is a calm, slow recollection of thoughts, feelings and moments.
