I've noticed an influx of new visitors to /c/ lately as well as a growing amount of, shall we say, "not so successful" threads. Let me take this opportunity to offer some friendly advice and helpful hints to our new /c/itizens and vistiors. No, I'm not a Mod or the 'voice of /c/', I'm just one of many friendly /c/itzens here who tries to keep /c/ a nice peaceful place to share in. There are plenty of other Anons and tripfags alike who make /c/ great. Remember to read the rules and check out the FAQs. I'm only offering helpful advice from my experiences here in /c/. Let's begin then. Feel free to ask questions or add any constructive comments.

One little tip of mine: I'm not even joking when I say this, but lurk more. Contributing a picture here and there is different, but I lurked for a few weeks minimum before starting a thread. Each board, nay, each site has its own respected way of doing things! It's best to see how that is as not to offend or annoy anyone.

"Bumping Your Thread Right Away" Relax. /c/ moves at what is often described as a delightfully slow pace, a snail's pace compared to other boards. It might take a couple of hours before some friendly /c/itizens post in your thread. Now that we have 15 pages your thread can last a day and a half without a single bump. Enjoy the rest of the boards as you wait. There's no hurry here.
Captain Sagebeard !XK3/oMXBd.

"One picture does not a thread make." There is no rule that states that you have to start a thread with more than one pic, but it will help your chances of getting some positive attention. A single pic can often be mistaken for a post that missed a thread and then ignored. Providing a clear 'subject' to your thread really helps out as well. "/r/equests" Other boards hate /r/equest threads and even report them. Here in /c/ we do help out with requests and provide the 'sauce' for pics. However, requesting pics for things that are very easily to find without sharing will probably get you ignored. If you're requesting something that is hard to find or you honestly have only one pic try to be sincere. There are /c/itizens who love to help if you ask nicely.

"Give me MOAR!...Do it NAO!....That's all??!!! I am Disappoint" /c/ is part of 4chan, but we really don't use memes and you will find that constantly using MOAR and other such "/b/-isms" probably won't encourage anyone to help your thread. Be patient and be polite.
Captain Sagebeard !XK3/oMXBd.

"Welcome to /c/, not /cm/." You can post pics of dudes here in /c/ AS LONG AS there is a cute girl in those pics. Guys only pics belong in /cm/, that's what that board is for.

"SPAM and SAGE" Yes, there is spam all over 4chan. Yes, it sucks. Just report it and ignore it. The spam is posted by 'bots' so there is no point in arguing with it. If, for some reason, you still feel the need to post something remember to type SAGE in the E-mail field. If you don't use SAGE you will bump the spam (or trolling thread) right back to the top page.

"Take a walk through /c/ first" Before posting a new thread it would be greatly appreciated if you would take a quick look through /c/ first to make sure you're not duplicating an existing thread. We would prefer not to have 3 or more 'general' Rozen Maiden, Touhou, Pokemon etc. threads going on at the same time. If you duplicate a thread /c/ is usually pretty good at politely pointing you in the direction of the already existing thread.
Try and use the subject field in your threads <- That can be a bit annoying If you desperately need images, then danbooru is a pretty good resource. Unfortunately, safebooru is down, so you'll have to browse through the nsfw images as well.
Captain Sagebeard !XK3/oMXBd.
Quoted By:
"There's already a general Rozen Maiden thread. Can I still start a Desu thread?" I don't see why not. /c/ frequently has threads dedicated to individual characters at the same time. Please keep this in mind though. If there is already 5+ threads dedicated to different characters of the same series you might want to wait until a couple of them are finished. I like Touhou, but I don't think I would want 15 or more Touhou character threads going on at the same time. Moderation is a good thing sometimes.

I hope that this thread helps. I came to /c/ a couple of years ago and I'm glad I did. This board is the crown jewel of 4chan in my opinion. If you're not sure about something feel free to ask. The /c/itizens here will help you, I'm sure of it. Welcome ta /c/ and enjoy yer stay. I'll keep me good eye on this thread fer awhile and answer any questions to the best of me abilities. I'm always sailing around some part o' the /c/.

"Why am I the only one posting in my thread??!" Yes, it can get a little frustrating when it seems that no one else is posting in your thread. It could be that your thread is too specific. Asking for bunny girls with green eyes, brown hair and blue dresses might not help your cause. Try dropping a parameter or too and see what happens. You also might have already posted most of the exisiting images, especially if your thread has an uncommon subject with few pics to start off with. Not every anime has a wide variety of fan art. Lastly, not every thread can guarantee success. It's just a fact of 4chan. If you've bumped your own thread without content three or four times with no help in sight it might be over. It happens to the best of us. Keep your chin up, try another board or wait a few days and try again with a different opening picture.
Captain Sagebeard !XK3/oMXBd.
Quoted By:
"Look before you dump away." It's always great when someone shares a load of pics, but it's also nice if you look through the thread as you're dumping to make sure you're not reposting any pics. The "duplicate file detected" warning doesn't always pop up. Sometimes your pic might be just slightly different than one that's already in the thread and that warning won't give you the heads up. Duplicates take up spots that new pics could take. On the other hand, I don't see a problem with posting the same pic with a better resolution, a 'coloured' version of a previously posted sketch, or an 'uncropped' or full version of an existing pic.

"Image Macros.">An image macro is a photo or picture with a (usually) witty phrase superimposed over it. They often convey a humorous message of disdain towards the original poster or the entire thread, but can be used to show approval. Image macros can be used on /c/ as long as they follow the rules. You can't use them if they use real life images or NSFW material and you shouldn't troll threads with them. There are, however, many image macros with /c/ material out there.

"I missed my thread." It has happened to all of us at least once. If you accidentally post outside of a thread just correct your mistake by deleting it. The Mods and Janitors won't do it for you. By deleting your own mispost you help unclutter the board and you get to repost the same pic in it's proper place.>To delete your post(s), check the box in the upper lefthand corner of the specific post(s) you wish to remove, and scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the [Delete] button. "The Subject." As mentioned before a subject (or lack there of) can make or break your thread. You don't have to write out an essay. Just give us an idea of what your thread is about. "Can we have a general Lucky Star thread?" That's all you really need. "Moar Like This." is not a good subject line. You are only encouraging trolls to post images that are very loosely related to your opening pic and most of the time not what you want. "Moar of Her." is not great either. Don't assume that everyone will recognize the character you have posted. Take a couple of seconds and identify the character in question. You'll probably get more posts in the long run.

Many of us on /c/ like to share and like the challange of searching for something rare. You could also keep your thread active by bumping it with pics that semi-relate to your original pic. I personally will go out of my way to help a thread if I see some kind of effort made.

>>1337380 personally, i find the captains methods slightly irritating. i appreciate that he wants to make the board better, but posting things like this thread don't help. Admittedly its much better then the constant sageing he used to do.
I have my own views on how to make the board better, the main one being to stop all this talk of rules and just post some cute pictures. if someone makes a request thread, don't sit there whining at the OP, use the thread as an opportunity to post some of the best material you have. If someone is asking for help looking for pics, help a fellow /c/itizen out and spend a few moments posting your favourite images. The captain is right about a few things though, the mannerisms seen elsewhere on 4chan don't sit well on /c/.
we don't need a set of hints or rules, we just have to act like the /c/ommunity we are. Be polite and help each other out. That is what we do and that is what makes this board the best..

Just something big, and I mean BIG, that OP missed.
You don't realize this: a lot of people have come here (unfortunately) from Gaiaonline-tier forums WITHOUT abandoning their previous mentality. And, I'm sorry about this, but an imageboard does not work the same way as a forum.
Before making a thread about how to use /c/ properly, people should learn about how to use an imageboard in general first.
So, my only contribution will be this:
