Hey /cgl/.
I remember seeing a thread a while back involving this leather dye and it having some pretty amazing results.
I was wondering if it would be possible to mix a pearlescent powder with this dye to give a pearl/metallic looking finish? Or would simply mixing the silver in with the other colors work? I'm going for a dark metallic blue.
If any of you guys have used this dye I'd love to see the results too. I forgot to save the images from last time.

Yea ive worked alot with this stuff, its really good dye and expensive but for the most part its worth it. The powder mix though wont give it a shine though, in fact, you would probably end up with the powder being rejected from the leather.

Expensive? A bottle at my leather store's less than $5, and was more than enough to do more coats than I needed on a pair of platforms with rounded toes, including under the toe.

You must have reached levels of thriftiness I could only dream of attaining.

Well concidering i had to dye over 200lbs of hard leather it gets real expensive=D. Used to work for a fetish shop and we sold leather products as well as just straight leather. If you need to die alot of leather i suggest using RIT that u buy at walmart. Its cheap and it gets the job done just make sure u run cold water over it when you dye it so it gets rid of the residue.

The product Rub n Buff is compatible with leather, and comes in black and a metallic blue, which you should in theory be able to mix into the color that suits your purposes. Aim to mix ALL you will need for the product at the begining, in one big batch, so there will be no color variance. Keep a measure of how much you used, and scrap leather around in the sad case you run out and need to try to replicate the color again.

http://www.entropyhouse.com/penwiper/costumes/helmsdeep.html shows a craft foam armor tutorial with Rub n Buff used to color it.

The cosplayer Sephi-chan (Sephiroth Chan on cosplay.com) has a deep seated love of Rub n Buff and would likely one day like her body to be preserved in it. If you have any weird questions, or ideas to bounce around, she's a great place to start and nice as hell.

Thanks for replying Gren! I actually do know that method! I've used that for the small armor pieces on my Abel Nightroad costume. It worked okay for me but I've seen some other damn amazing results for that stuff too.
