i know there are already 2 guys (acksonl & alarzy) on youtube who have started the trend but i really want to separate myself form these guys.

now what do you guys prefer on cosplay videos? like more cosplayers in one video or just a few cosplayers but excelling in quality cosplay? do you guys prefer to see detailed parts of a costume? more roleplay/ acting on the part of cosplayers? footage on the actual convention (booths / activities or whatever )?

so yeah just leave your suggestions or anything

As a professional filmmaker, this makes me a little bit sick. Amateur photogs and their dslr's think they know how to shoot movies now.

a) Learn shots, how they correspond to a story, juxtaposition, editing
b) have a story
c) focus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
d) LIGHTING
e) COLOUR GRADING
f) learn to edit meaningfully

As someone whos still learning and studying, this makes me a little bit sick. "Professional" photofags and filmmakers who think skill is measured by camera, and go around bashing people who are trying to learn, and share their learning progress. At least those amateurs aren't the ones flaunting their "professional" status with nothing to back it up.

It's not going become a mainstream movie.>>4389844has the right of it, if you're professional, back it up with something worth while, what you stated is general knowledge of planning. The OP can get that from any forum. And being a professional, which I assume makes it your job/or went to school for, doesn't mean you have to suck the fun out of someones hobby.

OP: To answer some of your questions, I do think that what Ackson does works, and while you don't want to make a video like his... it's the flow that works. The slow motion parts are really what attracts me to the videos because you get to actually see the cosplay.

I don't have a solution as to what could be the new trend, you are going to have to do the leg work and figure out what works best for you. One thing I would have on hand is a business card with your site on it. I always find it helpful, I keep all of mine and look the pictures up from those I get.

As for the color editing, I'm not sure how that would work. If you're going from different color schemes through out the video it may not flow together... Using your example, yes batman would be darker tones (I think of purples/blacks) but then if you have something like the green lantern or the flash, they have brighter colors. You would really have to play with the flow of the color schemes.

Good luck OP and others in this endeavor. There needs to be more variety of cosplay videos, so I hope something comes of this =)

Fuck, you should know about shooting for purpose. Its a showreel. It doesn't need a story. Noone is creating a 30 minute short film. Sure, it'll probably be (on the creative and technical side) crap (no offence OP), but fuck, let people try and have their fun.

inb4shit isn't real without an alexa, full vfx/cc 444 pipeline w/ da vinci and more grips than a small chinese town.
