How do you guys learn dances? I'm really trying hard to learn a few but it's pretty much impossible for me to learn them without someone teaching me. The slow mirrored videos don't help me much.

I'm currently trying to learn Boom Boom Mecho Machi and Our Steady Boy.

I just keep trying to dance with them. I'm a pretty fast learner, so as long as I watch the mirrored dance, if I just attempt to dance with them, I do pretty well. I can't do that 1/4 speed thing- it messes me up.

I really really don't get the appeal of this sort of dancing. I'm sure that it does require some skill, and that deserves respect, but I feel like this sort of dancing could only come from japan. God forbid you are off the beat, or slightly out of sync with everyone else doing exactly the same movement. Don't let your hips move, don't let your shoulders move, don't twist at the waist. It's the same reason I don't get and am subsequently terrible at DDR - it's just not a natural way of moving your body.

Watch it multiple times then try it along. I usually do that, and will also learn the moves in sections and won't move on to the next part until I have that section learned.
I can't learn with mirrored videos though. They confuse me. I'm used to learning with the normal view videos, so I automatically use the opposite side when watching them. I have to make a conscience effort not to do that with mirrored ones.
