Trouble at cons

So have any of you had trouble at cons? Other people, security, staff, etc.

I've been going to Otakon, Katsucon, and Nekocon every year since 2001 and have yet to run into any issues. Pretty much everyone I meet is really nice and chill, and I've made way too many friends at these places. Hell, staff at Otakon let me smoke weed right in front of them when I was 16 and 17.

I go to AWA and AX whenever I have the cash - started at 17(20 now), and it's pretty much the same thing at these places.

Not to mention finding one night stands at cons is as easy as finding books in a bookstore.

I keep hearing about all these terrible con stories and dramaz, but I have yet to see or experience anything like them.

Sarcasm?! If so, just go to Otakon and try it, some of the staffers even smoke with you. Even the cops don't care.

As for getting laid, it's that easy. Especially at the raves.

The reason you don't have any problems at these cons is more than likely due to the fact that YOU are probably the one making drama for others.
You kinda seem like a douche to me. I'm going to make an assumption and say you are from the Maryland/Virgina area? I avoid those cons you mentioned because of my experiences there the attendees have this selfish, stuck up demeanor about them. All the people I know from that area are just like you...pretty much all into themselves and don't notice or care how their actions hurt others. Just sayin'.

I think you experience drama when you cause drama, and you don't when you don't. Unless you're completely oblivious to people's interactions with and reactions to you.

That is what I am saying. If you don't have any drama at any cons you've gone to, there is something wrong. Drama follows if you are involved enough in a hobby.

This girl was really mean to me about one of my costumes one year. It was a character from a fan fiction I wrote that was basically a Twilight vampire version of Coraline. She was probably at least 18 and I was 12 at the time, but she followed me around for almost an hour with her friends saying mean things. Once I found my brother she left me and my freind alone, but it was pretty horrible for that little bit of time, for sure.

I'm not a douche. I like being nice to people and helping others, but the one night stand thing is true. And yeah, I'm from VA, NOVA to be exact. I hate seeing other people sad at cons, if I see someone not having a hard/bad time then I usually try to cheer them up.

So yeah, I'm not all into myself, but that's something I cant really prove with words. But if I was that oblivious to people's reactions, I would like for someone to shoot me right now.

I'm Otakon staff, and I'd believe it! If you think over half of Otakon staff isn't spending the weekend blazed and/or drunk, just wait until Sunday night, and all the rest will get that way.

Honestly, not surprised. Staffing a con and waiting tables[which I and some friend have done] have two things in common: You deal with fucking idiots on occasion and are usually high on some kind of narcotic/depressant/whatever, be it alcohol, weed, cocaine, or chocolate. I'm partial to Grey Goose after a shift.

I know this one guy who's Chief of Security ripped the lanyard off this guy[who was pretty obviously after the little girls at the con] at one con.

Don't assume all staff are chill like at Otakon and Katsucon, especially if you stir up shit. Main reason Otakon staffers and gofers are chill? They're babysitting 30 000 people. As long as you aren't committing felonies or causing major dramu in their earshot, they'll let you smoke your weed. That's how it goes according to my friend who did it a year or two before swearing to only do small cons from then on.

I had a weird experience with security staff once... Most of those guys were just some normal bouncers from night clubs and while it was nice to have someone with actual experience there they seemed to really their job. I heard them cursing all the time how they hate these freaks who dress up in stupid costumes, I don't mind people disliking cosplay and I know that the security staff isn't supposed to be very nice to everyone but I just didn't like their attitude, they seemed kind of shocked that it was full of people like that and no one wasn't even drunk.

I don't necessarily agree with that. I live a relatively drama-free life because my friends and I don't put up with that bullshit. the only people I hear it from are my mother and maybe one or two people on the outskirts of my circle. and we're a bunch of huge nerds.

Thank goodness I haven't had awful experiences, only minor annoyances. At Anime Reactor 2005, this dude asked my friend what my phone number was after I specidfically told her not to give my phone number out to anyway unless I was there. Well the next day I got at least 35 calls from 15 different dudes trying to get a date with me. I went out with one of them for two weeks. Ugh, I can't believe I gave up my first kiss.
