Which US Anime Cons have the most attendees?

I know Anime Expo is the largest, and Otakon is the second. A-kon used to be third but I'm sure it's like fifth now.

What are the current rankings? Can that even be calculated when hundreds of people don't even buy a badge and other cons inflate their numbers?

A quick google search says dis for 2009

Anime Expo -- 44,000 estimated people total
Otakon -- 26,350 paid attendees
New York Anime Festival -- 21,388 people total
Anime Central -- 17,249 people total / 15,463 paid attendees
Sakura-Con -- 16,586 people total
A-Kon -- 16,037 people total
Anime Boston -- 15,438 paid attendees
Anime North -- 14,800 estimated paid attendees
FanimeCon -- 15,000 estimated people total / 14,000 estimated paid attendees
Anime Weekend Atlanta -- 11,717 paid attendees

Out of idle curiosity, is the 'estimated people total' for cons that take place in hotels or hotel-conference center hybrids, but also have mundy...Er, non-fans just staying at the hotel the same weekend? If that's the case, I wonder how they estimate

Paid attendees are people who bought a regular badge.
People total usually includes staff, dealers, press, guests etc. Basically covering every other kind of badge in addition to the regular ones. So no, random people aren't counted.

._. Oddly enough, the few cons I have little desire to attend are all north for me. [NYAF, AP, and AN]. How odd.

Sorta.

They use "turnstile" attendance, a fave of the for-profits. Every one-day = one attendee. Every three-day pass = three attendees since they come in three times. So divide that number by 2 or 3 for a better convention count.

I don't think I'd be too excited about visiting a large con. Anime Iowa cuts badge sales down around 2500-3000.
